Carlos Alcaraz is in Australia for the season’s first Grand Slam event. Before the tournament, Alcaraz participated in an exhibition event on Wednesday. He faced local man Alex de Minaur and lost with scores of 7-5, 4-6(10-5).
During the post-match interview, Alcaraz entertained the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena with his answers to former player Andrea Petkovic‘s questions about ‘engagement’. De Minuar, during the off-season, got engaged to British No.1 Katie Boulter after dating for almost five years.
Apart from them, Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime also got engaged. When Petkovic brought up De Minaur’s engagement during the interview, Alcaraz said he had already congratulated the Aussie but wished him again in front of the packed crowd. Alcaraz however, had nothing much to say on matters about relationship, for he is just 21.
Petkovic didn’t end there. She asked the youngster from Spain if he is still ‘single’ and is ‘on the market’. To this, Alcaraz expressed his hope to find a girlfriend in 2025.
Last year, during a fun interaction with magician Daniel Fernandez, Alcaraz was asked about his future wife’s name, to which he said, ‘Maria’. Some reports in the past have linked Alcaraz to Maria Gonzalez Gimenez, who, as per rumors, has represented Murcia Tennis Club.

Alcaraz skipped the Brisbane International and the ongoing ASB Classic. Without enough match practice, the Spaniard will be participating at the Australian Open where he has never reached the final. In 2024, the four-time Grand Slam champion advanced to the quarterfinals and lost to Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
