Carlos Alcaraz took to his social media account to congratulate Coco Gauff after she won her first China Open trophy on Sunday (October 6). Inside Diamond Court, Gauff quickly wrapped up the match with an easy win over Karolina Muchova 6-1, 6-3.
It was the same court where Alcaraz a few days ago lifted his first China Open title. He was up against Jannik Sinner and, unlike the Gauff-Muchova clash, the match was a thrilling one as it ended not before three hours. Before kick-starting his China Open campaign, he was dressed in a traditional Chinese outfit and so was Gauff, as both of them made a trip to the Forbidden City.
Gauff, after her win in the final, joked that her and Alcaraz’s visit to the Forbidden City was the reason why both of them ended up winning the title. Alcaraz took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an X post that stated how it all started with their visit to the Forbidden City and how it ended with both of them lifting the titles.

It was Gauff’s second WTA Tour title of the season after she clinched the ASB Classic earlier this year. The American became the first player from the country after Serena Williams to win the title in Beijing. The 23-time Grand Slam champion emerged victorious in 2004 and 2013. The China Open was also Gauff’s second WTA 1000 title following her Cincinnati Open win last season. Gauff will now shift her focus on the Wuhan Open.
Carlos Alcaraz lauds Wu Yibing after third-round win in Shanghai Masters
Carlos Alcaraz is in Shanghai, and he went past his opponents in the first two matches after receiving a bye. His second opponent was home favorite Wu Yibing and Alcaraz struggled to beat him in the first set. After the match, the Spaniard praised him and called him a powerful player.
Alcaraz will next face Gael Monfils or Ugo Humbert in the Round of 16. Last year in Shanghai, Alcaraz lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.
