Carlos Alcaraz wrapped up a tough first-round match in his favor in an extremely hot condition on Centre Court on Day 1 of Wimbledon. He was up against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, whom he defeated in five sets.

While he was battling, a spectator in the stands collapsed due to the heat, and the 22-year-old rushed toward her, providing a water bottle which was then passed to her. That fan was the mother of Eluned Lewis, a user on X who only expressed gratitude to Alcaraz by tagging him on the platform.

Thank you @carlosalcaraz for the concern shown to my mum today who was taken ill during your tennis match at Centre Court @Wimbledon today. Unlikely you’ll see this message but I can try! Thank you @BBCSport.

The post went viral when it received a response from the Spaniard. Alcaraz noticed the tweet and sent a heartwarming message to her mother. He replied on X:

You’re very welcome, it was nothing! I hope your mum is doing well. Send her a kiss from me and take good care of her!

Alcaraz will next face Britain’s Oliver Tarvet in the second round. The 21-year-old is a qualifier and knocked out Leandro Riedi to schedule the match against the two-time Wimbledon champion. Alcaraz is aiming to win his sixth title of the season at Wimbledon after lifting the titles in Rotterdam, Monte Carlo, Rome, Paris, and at the Queen’s Club Championships, where he captured his fourth grass-court title by beating Jiri Lehecka.

The five-time Grand Slam champion is also bidding to complete the Channel Slam for two consecutive seasons. Before the grass swing, Alcaraz ended the clay swing as the most successful player, defending his French Open title by beating his arch-rival Jannik Sinner in an epic five-hour, 29-minute battle.

Coco Gauff wants Carlos Alcaraz to reveal to her the secrets of his Ibiza trip

Coco Gauff won’t be becoming the first woman since 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams to complete the Channel Slam as she suffered a shock first-round exit at Wimbledon. Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska knocked her out in straight sets to secure her career’s first win against the American in their fourth encounter.

Gauff had reached the fourth round at SW19 thrice, including last year. Now it’s for the second time at Wimbledon that she lost her first-round match (after the 2023 season) and her third in Grand Slam tournaments overall (lost in the 2022 Australian Open first round).

A quick transition from clay to grass is considered one of the toughest things in tennis and Gauff too admitted that she struggles to adapt on the surface following the grueling clay swing. Like Gauff, several other top 10 players from both the men’s and women’s tours suffered first-round exit.

Before starting her campaign, Gauff expressed her wish to know the secret of Carlos Alcaraz‘s Ibiza vacation, joking that she is convinced that something there helps him play great tennis when he comes back. Alcaraz loves to spend at least three days on the Mediterranean island after the clay season (even if his team members want him to prepare for the grass swing).

I’m starting to think that maybe next year I should stay in Europe and have a bit of fun between both tournaments. I want to talk to him about it, have him tell me everything he does when he goes to Ibiza. I need to know what he eats, what he drinks, and what time he goes to bed every night.

During his Netflix documentary, Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, the 22-year-old admitted that he wants to forget completely about tennis while vacationing in Ibiza. The trip also helps him refresh physically and mentally.

After his trip this year, Alcaraz lifted the Queen’s Club title. Gauff believes only Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic adapt quickly to the grass after clay as the Serb, before this season, progressed to six consecutive Wimbledon finals since 2018, losing only in the last two seasons to Alcaraz.
