Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as one of the best players of his generation. But his recent form this season has become worrying, especially after the Sunshine Double. Though the Spaniard has enjoyed success, his recent struggles have caused a dip in confidence on the court.
Alcaraz has won just two titles since winning the French Open in June 2024. The 21-year-old’s results have been inconsistent since after losing to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Olympics singles final. This season, he began well, reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and then winning the Rotterdam title.
But since then, he has failed to reach a tournament final. In fact, his only semi-final match was against Jack Draper at Indian Wells, where he lost three sets. In Miami, he failed to deliver as he lost in the second round against David Goffin. The Spaniard has faced huge criticism recently for lack of consistent performance.
However, Alcaraz understands what he has been going through in recent months. With his current dip in confidence and inconsistent form, he believes the only way to get past these issues is to stay strong mentally.
Sometimes it’s difficult to deal with it. Because, I mean, you can feel like you’re not good enough for what you achieve. It’s like a surprise or something. So you have to stay strong mentally and believe in yourself all the time. But, you know, every week I’m just lucky to have, you know, the people that are around to remind me, you know, that I’m good. You know, I’m still good. So I’m realizing that tennis for me is just a game and I have to enjoy it. And I just keep going enjoying it.

Alcaraz will hope that he finds his form on clay. The World No.3 is set to feature at the Monte Carlo Masters, which began on Sunday, April 6. He will open his match account in the second round after a first-round bye.
Carlos Alcaraz feels weird playing at the Monte Carlo because of this
Alcaraz has only played the Monte Carlo Masters once in his career. Despite making his ATP debut in 2020, on many occasions injury has forced the 21-year-old out of the competition. He will be playing at the tournament for the second time in his career, which makes him excited about embracing the experience the tournament will give him.

Yes, you know, thinking about I’ve played, you know, other tournaments like five times, you know, saying like this tournament I just only played once is a weird feeling. Which means, I mean, I’m excited about playing here, getting experience, getting matches here. Looking forward to get my first win here, that I haven’t yet. So I think it’s a pretty beautiful club, pretty beautiful tournament. Like I’m a little bit ashamed that I’ve just played once. But yeah, I’m excited to play my second time here.
Carlos Alcaraz said
Nonetheless, Alcaraz has won eight ATP clay titles in his career, despite his lack of experience in Monte Carlo. He is expected to face the winner between Italian Fabio Fogini and Francisco Cerundolo in the second round of the Masters event.
I am really happy to be here. It is a tournament I have only played [once]. I want to come here and play great. I am really excited about practising here and getting ready for my first match.
Carlos Alcaraz added
After the Monte Carlo Masters, Alcaraz is expected to feature in the Barcelona Open, Madrid Open, Italian Open, and then the French Open.
