Carlos Alcaraz playfully warned his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, after securing his first Laver Cup victory. With Ferrero absent, Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg stepped in as Alcaraz’s coach for the event, adding a fun dynamic to the Spaniard’s win.

Alcaraz continued with his fine performance at the Davis Cup last week. The 21-year-old helped Spain earn an excellent victory over the Czech Republic, France, and Australia to finish at the top of Group B. They have also qualified for the quarterfinal stage in Malaga, Spain, which gets underway in November.

The recent French Open champion lost his opening doubles match at the Laver Cup on Friday (September 20). He, alongside his partner Alexander Zverev, lost to Team World’s Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton in a straight sets. The Spaniard redeemed himself in singles category against Shelton with an impressive all-round performance.

He gave the Americans no chance, showing his skills to win 6-4, 6-4. After the victory, in all smiles, he sent a hilarious warning to Juan Carlos Ferrero, revealing that Bjorn Borg is a very good coach.

Juan Carlos, if you look at me, be careful of your position as a coach… I have very good coaches too.

Alcaraz won over Shelton and drew Team Europe level with Team World in 4-4. Frances Tiafoe had given Team World an early lead after coming from behind to beat Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 in the first match of the second day.

Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that he is delighted to be part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup. The 21-year-old earned his first win at the event after beating Ben Shelton in a straight sets. Despite being a debutant at the event, the Spaniard seems to be getting along with teammates.

Alcaraz has won three titles this season. First coming at Indian Wells in March before winning two consecutive Grand Slam events. He claimed the silver medal at the Paris Olympics after losing to Novak Djokovic in the final.

He suffered a dipping form at the North American swing, losing his opening match at the Cincinnati Open. At the US Open, he won his first round match before shockingly exiting in the second round. However, at the Davis Cup, he seems to have found his confidence helping Spain qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament.
