Carlos Alcaraz went past Nicolas Jarry in the second round of the Paris Masters on Tuesday (October 29). Jarry challenged the Spaniard in the first set but faltered in the second and soon, with a 7-5, 6-1 win, Alcaraz secured himself a spot in the third round and improved his head-to-head record against the Chilean to 3-1.

Following the match, the 23-year-old produced a celebration similar to that of soccer icon Neymar Jr. He signed the camera with a yellow marker pen, wrote ‘Paris !!!’ and drew a heart. Alcaraz touched the sides of his face with his thumbs and stuck out his tongue.

About a week ago, Alcaraz shared the court with Neymar in Riyadh during his campaign at the Six Kings Slam. The Al-Hilar star was in the stands when Alcaraz locked horns with Rafael Nadal in the semifinals.

The youngster had defeated his idol but was beaten by Jannik Sinner in the final. Nadal also gifted the Brazilian icon a racket and the latter showed it off on his Instagram story.

He won his first Paris Masters match in two years as last year, he fell to Roman Safiullin in straight sets. After his match against Nicolas Jarry, Alcaraz admitted that he faced some struggles and needed to adapt himself to the conditions of Bercy.

I think I played perfect tennis [in the first set], but in the end it was complicated. I’m just really happy to get through the opening set, it was really important for me to come into the second with more confidence. I [need] time to get used to the speed of the court. It’s been two years since I have won a match here in Paris-Bercy, so every time that I keep going is a gift to me.

Carlos Alcaraz said after the match

Alcaraz is set to face either Ugo Humbert or Marcos Giron in the third round. The 21-year-old has met the Frenchman twice and won both the matches, and is 1-0 against Giron. Alcaraz is also aiming to win five or more ATP titles for a third consecutive season.
