Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon after beating French Ugo Humbert in the fourth round. The Spaniard was pushed to the limit for the second successive match but stood firm hitting one of his best-spinning forehands to take his winning streak to an 11-match run at Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old was in total control of the match despite starting slow. He took the lead winning the first two sets, while Humbert didn’t do much. But, in the third, the French star began to make inroads with his early strike returns, pushing the three-time Grand Slam champion to his baseline. He forced the match to its fourth set as the players were protected from the torrential rain that drummed on the closed Center Court roof.

Humbert continued with his brilliance leading 4-3, as the match was moving into its fifth set like Alcaraz’s third-round match against Frances Tiafoe. But, 4-5 down, he hit a spinning forehand passing shot down the line much to the awe of the crowd. The Spaniard went on to win 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

During his on-court interview, Alcaraz was asked which shot was his favorite. He revealed that he likes a forehand drop shot and two other shots.

I just choose the shot when I’m gonna hit it. I don’t think about it before. I’m gonna say probably forehand drop shot, forehand passing shot, or a lob tweener. Sometimes I’ve done it. That’s my favorite shot so I’m trying to find it every match.

Alcaraz has now lost only one Grand Slam match this year and that was at the Australian Open where he exited in the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old won Wimbledon last year and will be hoping to repeat the same feat.

Carlos Alcaraz feeling great after beating tricky left-handed Ugo Humbert just a few weeks after losing to Jack Draper

Carlos Alcaraz now has a 56-10 win-loss record at Grand Slams after beating French Ugo Humbert in the fourth round. The Spaniard revealed that he had to play his own game against a tricky left-handed Humbert like he failed to do against Brit Jack Draper.

He lost to Draper 6-7, 3-6 in the second round of the Queen’s Club Championship, eventually failing to defend his title.

Playing lefties is always tricky. At Queen’s, first on grass [against Draper]. Very difficult, but I just played my own game. I feel great today. I played a really high level. I just had to stay in the point, show my opponent that I’m always going to be there, last ball.
