Carlos Alcaraz claimed the year-end World No.1 after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the final round robin match at the ATP Finals in Turin. The 22-year-old has dropped only one set at the tournament and has remained undefeated. He has also been the most consistent player of the season, having racked up 70 wins and just eight losses.
Alcaraz had lost his World No.1 spot to Jannik Sinner last week after crashing out of the Paris Masters early. Sinner overtook the Spaniard following his triumph at the tournament for the first time in his career. But since the commencement of the ATP Finals, Alcaraz has gone back to the top of the rankings, but is still not yet sure about finishing the year there.
He just had to win just three matches at the tournament as he held a 1,050 points lead over Sinner, who was No.2. Alcaraz won his opening match against Alex de Minaur in straight sets despite a tight contest. He then came from a set down to beat last year’s runner-up, Taylor Fritz, in the second round robin match.
On Thursday (November 13), he made it three wins in three matches, defeating Musetti 6-4, 6-1. The victory capped a perfect 3-0 run through the Jimmy Connors group and it was the first time Alcaraz won his opening three matches at the tournament. He has now claimed the ATP year-end No.1 for the second time in his career.
The first time Alcaraz finished the year as No.1 was in 2022, when he produced a spectacular run during the North American hard-court swing. During his press conference, Alcaraz revealed that the 2025 season is his most successful year in his professional tennis career. He added that he has limited his weaknesses on the court by working upon them:
The truth is, it’s been a magnificent season. Consistency has always been a weakness for me, and I’ve tried to work on it as much as possible. It’s always been a burden, so I’ve tried to improve it, which I think we’ve achieved. I’ve managed to win or reach the final in almost every tournament I’ve entered, and that’s what I’m taking away from it. We’ve been able to overcome the start of the year: I think it’s the best season of my career.
Alcaraz claimed two Grand Slam titles this season, at Roland Garros and the US Open. Besides that, he was the only player in the men’s circuit to win three Masters 1000 tournaments on tour and leads the number of titles this season with eight. Should he win the ATP Finals in Turin, it will.be his ninth title of the season.
Carlos Alcaraz says he worked very hard to win the ATP year-end World No. 1
One title that has been missing from Carlos Alcaraz’s trophy cabinet is the ATP Finals. The World No.1’s best run at the event was in 2023, when he reached the semi-finals before losing to Novak Djokovic. He now has an opportunity to reach the final as he leads the Jimmy Connors group and will face the second-placed player in the Bjorn Borg group in the semi-finals.

He claimed the year-end World No.1 title on Friday (November 14) during the presentation ceremony in Turin, a day after sealing the feat against Lorenzo Musetti. During his speech after the same, Alcaraz admitted that he worked very hard to receive the honor, while thanking his team and family for helping him during the journey:
It is a pleasure for me [being] the No. 1. Being the No. 1 of the world is something that I’m working really hard for with my team every day. It is a goal. But I think it is a journey that you’re not going through alone. It’s with your whole team, with your family, with your close people behind you always supporting you in the tough and good moments.
Alcaraz’s semi-final opponent is yet to be known, but there are chances that his opponent is either Alexander Zverev or Felix Auger-Aliassime.
