Even Carlos Alcaraz was stunned by Serena Williams‘ iconic crip walk during the halftime of Super Bowl LIX. On Sunday (February 9), the Philadelphia Eagles secured a 40-22 win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

But during halftime, when Kendrick Lamar was performing his Grammy-winning Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us,’ Williams made a surprising appearance. She crip walked to Lamar’s song, dumbfounding the crowd inside Caesars Superdome.

Alcaraz, who on that same day beat Alex de Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to win his first indoor hard-court tournament at the Rotterdam Open, made his feelings known about Williams’ performance in just two words. “Just epic,” wrote Alcaraz on his Instagram story.

Williams had celebrated her victory over Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon at the 2012 London Olympics by crip walking; but at that time, it was considered inappropriate. The 42-year-old, after her performance at Super Bowl, joked that had she crip walked the same way at Wimbledon, she would have been fined.

One of the reasons behind Williams’ appearance was that she too is from Compton, the city in California where Lamar grew up. The other reason was that neither of them like Drake, the rapper who reportedly dated Williams.

The lyrics of Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ has a line, ‘Better not speak on Serena’ as Drake had referenced the 23-time Singles Grand Slam champion in his songs ‘Worst Behavior’ and ‘Middle of the Ocean’ where he took a jibe at Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Carlos Alcaraz wants to place himself among best indoor hard-court players

Carlos Alcaraz not only claimed his first indoor hard-court title, but he also reached his first final on the surface after beating Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal. Although there were doubts about whether he would be able to lift the title in indoor conditions, Alcaraz, after the win, declared that he wants to dominate on the indoor courts.

I’ve said many, many times that I knew I was going to play really good tennis on indoor hard courts, it was just about time.

Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

Alcaraz also clinched his first title of the season. In January, he failed to complete the Career Grand Slam as 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic eliminated him from the Australian Open with a four-set win in the quarterfinals.

The 21-year-old will next shift his focus to the Qatar Open, which is scheduled to start on February 17. He didn’t participate in the Middle East Swing last year and instead chose to play the Golden Swing in South America.
