The Spaniard was speaking in the post-match press conference after winning his second Wimbledon title. He beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2, 7-6) to win his fourth Grand Slam title.
I think being there with Jannik, 21 & 22 years old, at the top of the ranking. Winning Grand Slams. I think it’s good for tennis to have new faces winning big things. Fighting for big tournaments. I’m really glad to have him there. As I said many times we have a really good rivalry. Many young players are coming up and fighting for big things as well. It’s great for the sport, for tennis… and the players as well.Carlos Alcaraz said in his post-match press conference
Sinner and Alcaraz have truly dominated 2024, having won seven ATP titles between them this year. The Italian started strong by winning his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, followed by his first title at Rotterdam.
Alcaraz defended his Indian Wells crown shortly afterwards, and Sinner won the second Masters 1000 title of his career at Miami. Although both talented individuals had a troublesome clay-court season, they regained their form at the French Open, entertaining the crowd with their five-set epic in the semifinals.
Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam title in Paris, but Sinner regained the No. 1 ranking from Djokovic after the Serbian withdrew from his quarterfinal due to a knee injury. Sinner won his first title as the World No. 1 in Halle, but Alcaraz took home his second Wimbledon title.
