World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism for his perceived inconsistent season so far. While some might succumb to such immense pressure and expectations, the 21-year-old has displayed remarkable maturity, being imperturbable by the negativity around him.

As a four-time Grand Slam champion, a former World No. 1, and perhaps the most entertaining player on the ATP tour, Alcaraz captures a lot of attention wherever he plays and people expect him to perform phenomenally in every tournament. The Spaniard lost in the 2025 Australian Open quarterfinals to a 37-year-old injury marred Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz then, also lost the Qatar Open quarterfinals to Jiri Lehecka.

With my game I am really happy about it. If I don’t win it doesn’t matter if I play well or not. People are not thinking about the opponent, they are just thinking about me. If I lose something is going on people say. I don’t think that it’s fair. I am just happy and ready to play well on clay.

However his more shocking losses came in the North American swing. Entering the Indian Wells as the two time defending champion, Alcaraz lost to eventual champion Jack Draper in the semifinals. Alcaraz then had an opening round exit at the Miami Open after facing an upset to David Goffin. This marked the first time since 2021 that Alcaraz did not win any title in the Sunshine swing.

Despite these loses, Alcaraz has still managed to clinch a title in the first quarter of the year, braving a cold at the ABN AMRO Open. This victory at Rotterdam, marked his 17th ATP singles title and his first indoor title. It is only fair that Alcaraz is happy with his performance and level, and not concerned with what every critic is commenting.

Carlos Alcaraz acknowledges the performance of other players on the tour

Despite being denied a chance for a three-peat at the Indian Wells by Jack Draper, Carlos Alcaraz has acknowledged the talent of Draper along with many other players who he believes are playing good tennis and deserve to win.

This only reveals more of Alcaraz’s heightened sense of maturity wherein he appreciates the hard work of other players and is happy for their growth and success without losing confidence in himself or being overly upset or critical of his own performance.

A lot of people might have said we should have played better tennis or won more tournaments but I don’t think that is fair. I think the draw in every tournament is very open and a lot of players are playing good tennis and they deserve to be there.

Carlos Alcaraz added

Alcaraz has believed in Draper’s potential since the Australian Open when Draper had to retire against Alcaraz and he penned a heartfelt message for the Brit on the camera lens. As Draper went on to win his first Masters 1000 title at the Indian Wells Open, Alcaraz had reiterated that Draper deserved to be in the finals and in the Top 10 rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz is excited for the Monte Carlo Masters

Carlos Alcaraz is now gearing for the clay season. He is the second seed in the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he will make just his second appearance. Alcaraz missed the past two editions due to injury. He faced defeat in his opening match of this tournament to Sebastian Korda three years ago.

There are so many players who play well on clay and on all surfaces. In the clay season I think it is going to be interesting. I see a lot of players who are capable of doing great things on clay.

Carlos Alcaraz added

Alcaraz, who has won eight of his 17 titles on clay, expressed his delight and excitement for competing in Monte Carlo. He will commence his run in this tournament against either Francisco Cerundolo or Italian wild card Fabio Fognini, a former champion at the event, who clinched the title in 2019.
