Carlos Alcaraz is currently playing in the Barcelona Open, aiming for a third title in the tournament. He recently sat down for an interview with Marca, where he discussed different aspects of his life, career, and the sport.
He spoke about his Netflix documentary titled ‘Carlos Alcaraz: My Way’, which will be released on 23rd April. What emerges from the documentary, he says with satisfaction, is the most authentic ‘Carlos.’ He revealed that one of the scenes in the documentary shows him looking at the Wimbledon trophy and reading the names of the champions.
He added that he was astonished upon seeing his name beside tennis legends on the Wimbledon trophy, even though that expression might not be very apparent in the documentary.
When I look at the Wimbledon trophy and read the names, even though you don’t see it in the documentary, I think, ‘And here I am. What the hell am I doing here, among all these legends?‘
Carlos Alcaraz told Marca
Alcaraz won his first Wimbledon title and second Grand Slam title overall in 2023 when he defeated four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final. It marked a dynamic shift in tennis too, as it was the first time since 2002 that the winner of the event was not a member of the Big Four. The following year, Alcaraz defended his Wimbledon title, once again defeating Djokovic in the finals, this time in straight sets.
Alcaraz is now tied with his idol Rafael Nadal, Stefan Edberg, Jimmy Connors, Rod Laver, John Newcombe, and Andy Murray for two titles in this Grand Slam in the Open Era. In Wimbledon, John McEnroe and Boris Becker have 3 titles, Bjorn Borg has 5, Djokovic and Pete Sampras have 7, and Roger Federer holds the record for the most number of titles, i.e., 8.
Carlos Alcaraz clinched his second title of the season at the Monte Carlo Masters
Carlos Alcaraz entered the Barcelona Open after a successful Monte Carlo Masters campaign where he lifted the trophy for the first time. It was only his second appearance in the tournament, with his first one being in 2022. Despite the victory and his love for the clay surface, the 21-year-old is not really satisfied with his level and believes that there is much to improve for the rest of the clay season.

The victory at Monte Carlo marks his second title of the season and gives him a much-needed confidence boost after a heartbreaking Sunshine Swing. Prior to Monte Carlo, Alcaraz had triumphed at Rotterdam this year in February. Overall, the Monte Carlo Masters title marks his 18th singles title, 9th on clay, and 6th Masters 1000 title. With this victory, Alcaraz has also overtaken Alexander Zverev for the World No. 2 rank.
Carlos Alcaraz will meet Arthur Fils in the Barcelona Open semifinals
Carlos Alcaraz has now reached the semifinals of the Barcelona Open. Alcaraz has reigned champion twice at this home soil ATP 500 tournament. In 2022, Alcaraz defeated compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta in the finals. Alcaraz defended his title the next year, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals. Alcaraz unfortunately had to withdraw from the 2024 edition due to an arm injury.

Alcaraz quelled a spirited challenge from American qualifier Ethan Quinn in the opening round of the tournament this year. He defeated another qualifier, Laslo Djere, in the next round. In the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open, the World No. 2 faced Alex de Minaur.
Their last meeting took place at the Rotterdam Open finals, where Alcaraz defeated the Australian in three sets. This was their second meeting at the Barcelona Open. However, Alcaraz got the better of de Minaur in straight sets and will now face Arthur Fils in the semifinals.
