Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero’s partnership as player and coach is being lauded by the tennis world. With a fruitful relationship on the court, Alcaraz recently opened up about the strict nature of Ferrero’s professionalism, which has helped him become the player he is today.
Ferrero had earlier worked with Alexander Zverev, but the collaboration didn’t end well and they parted ways after eight months. He took up the role of Alcaraz’s coach when he was still 15 and had to sacrifice heavy pay to see his talent develop. Ferrero’s instincts came true as his sacrifice then bore great fruits.
In 2022, Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam at the US Open, last year he added one by winning at Wimbledon. This year, he won the Indian Wells Masters in March, before racking up back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Alcaraz and Ferrero’s relationship blossomed in six years and he has guided the youngster for six years, winning 15 titles.
Acknowledging this, Alcaraz has admitted that Ferrero’s toughness and serious and strict nature helped him mature very fast into a good player.
He’s a tough guy. He is a very serious person when necessary. In terms of work and discipline, he is very tough, but he is also very, very funny when he needs to be. He knows how to differentiate moments very well but, yes; he is very strict on everything, on the court, on professionalism, on the things that I need to improve off the court. But I think that's why I'm where I am today, that's why I grew up so quickly, because if he wasn't so demanding, I probably would have gone off the rails.Carlos Alcaraz said via Relevo.
Alcaraz will be without Ferrero when he travels with the Spanish tennis team for the Paris Olympics. However, the 21-year-old will hope to win the medal by bringing it home to celebrate with his coach.

This is the youngster’s first Olympic Games, while Nadal will be attending his fourth Summer Games event, having won two gold medals.
He has already experienced the Games and won two gold medals. I am the newbie, so I have to keep my mouth shut and listen to him.Carlos Alcaraz said via ABC.
