Roger Federer has finally met Carlos Alcaraz after a long time. At the 2019 Wimbledon, Alcaraz, who was 16 years old then, got the chance to meet the tennis legend. Federer, however, did not show much excitement when his coach asked him to train with the young Alcaraz and because of this, Federer wanted to apologize to him.

Both Alcaraz and Federer are in Berlin now for the Laver Cup, the tournament which runs from 20-22 September. Federer, who retired in 2022 after playing his final match at the Laver Cup, has expressed his wish to watch Alcaraz play for the first time, while the Spaniard wants to impress the 20-time Grand Slam champion with his game. In a recent interview, Alcaraz talked about the moment he met Federer for the first time.

I trained today (Wednesday) and Roger was in the gym, but I didn’t see him. I hope to see him in the next few days. I remember our training at Wimbledon (in 2019) like it was yesterday. It was our first meeting and I will never forget it. It was a unique moment. I have the photo in my room.
Carlos Alcaraz said in an interview with Marca

Alcaraz, who is representing Team Europe, will make his Laver Cup debut by playing a doubles match along with Germany’s Alexander Zverev against Team World’s Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton on September 20 at the Uber Arena in Berlin.

This reminded the fans on social media of the time when Federer did the same with Rafael Nadal during an event. With Nadal, the Swiss maestro played his final match of his career at the Laver Cup and the former was expected to join his Team Europe teammates for this edition of the tournament.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion, however, ended up skipping the event. This year has so far been forgettable for him all due to his constant battle with injuries. He reached just one final and is yet to win a trophy. While Federer has won the Laver Cup thrice, Nadal has won it two times, for Team Europe.
