Carlos Alcaraz clinched his 18th ATP singles title at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the finals. Alcaraz has had a season filled with highs and lows. While he won his first title of the season at the Rotterdam Open, he faced his biggest setback of the season a month later at the Miami Open, where he had a shocking opening round exit.
He has faced a lot of criticism throughout the season for his choice of partying and playing exhibition matches, and some had even suggested that Alcaraz change his coaching team. Despite all the flak, Alcaraz has stayed happy and focused and has bounced back strongly with the Monte Carlo title.
To my team.. I have no words to say how grateful I am for the great work and for everything. To be my team… in the professional part… and to be my family… because I feel like we are like a family. We’ve been through a difficult moment the last month. We’ve been always together, really strong together. Going the right path and doing great things. Just to come here to Monte Carlo and just to play good tennis. I want to say thank you for everything. You made me stay here and win this tournament. I want to say thank you. I love the people who are standing here and the people supporting at home as well.
Carlos Alcaraz said in his victory speech
After his triumph at Monte Carlo, Alcaraz shared beautiful words of appreciation for his coaching team during his victory speech. Alcaraz’s coaching team is led by head coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former World No. 1 and Roland Garros champion who has been instrumental in Alcaraz’s journey since 2019.
In December 2024, Samuel Lopez, who previously coached Pablo Carreno Busta, joined Alcaraz’s team to provide additional coaching expertise. Lopez had accompanied Alcaraz to both the tournaments where he has won this year—Monte Carlo and Rotterdam.
Carlos Alcaraz came from a set down to defeat Lorenzo Musetti in the finals
Carlos Alcaraz has played for the second time in Monte Carlo, with his first time being in 2022. He faced some tough challenges in the tournament, particularly in the quarterfinals, where he defeated home favorite Arthur Fils, and in the semifinals, where he faced compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Lorenzo Musetti, who was bidding for his maiden Masters 1000 title, also put up tough competition for Alcaraz in the finals, particularly in the first set. Alcaraz, who had produced a lot of unforced errors in the first set, made adjustments to his game and fought back in the next set.
During the third set, Musetti unfortunately had to take a medical timeout to deal with a leg injury while he was trailing 3-0. He was barely able to play once he returned, and Alcaraz soon sealed the victory with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Carlos Alcaraz will now overtake Alexander Zverev for World No. 2 ranking
With this triumph, Carlos Alcaraz has clinched his 18th ATP title and sixth ATP Masters 1000 title. It marks his ninth title on clay, a surface for which he has reiterated his love throughout the tournament. This victory at Monte Carlo gives the World No. 3 a confidence boost before he defends his French Open title next month.

After clinching his second title of the season, Alcaraz will now overtake Alexander Zverev as World No. 2. Lorenzo Musetti, who was ranked at World No. 16, will reach a new career high of World No. 11.
