Carlos Alcaraz beat Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday (August 1) to book his place in the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics. He beat the Canadian in straight sets to ensure he took home an Olympic medal on his debut.
The match was straightforward for Alcaraz, who has been in great form this tournament. He has not dropped a set all tournament and was rarely troubled by Auger-Aliassime. The only time the Spaniard struggled a bit was against Tommy Paul in the previous round, where he had to fight to win the match in straight sets.
Alcaraz later confirmed that he felt a bit of fatigue during that second set against Paul. However, with no doubles to play anymore, he managed to get some rest before the match against Auger-Aliassime. Moving freely and with accurate shots, he wrapped up the match 6-1, 6-1.
The Canadian fought hard to make it to the semifinals but did not have any answer to Alcaraz’s dominance. With around 20 unforced errors and just five winners, he was not at his best which helped Alcaraz seal his spot in the final of the Paris Olympics. Alcaraz won 12 out of 14 games played with 78% of points won on the first serve.
With it, Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach the final of the prestigious event since 1904.

Carlos Alcaraz beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to book his place in the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is an incredible achievement for the youngster as it confirms a medal for Spain.
Alcaraz is now only the fourth Spaniard to reach the tennis final at the Olympics. Rafael Nadal was the last player to win gold at the Games and Alcaraz could create history by becoming the youngest player to do so.
The 21-year-old will take on either Novak Djokovic or Lorenzo Musetti in the final. He has a good record against both these players. Alcaraz beat Musetti this year at the Indian Wells and beat Djokovic at the Wimbledon final. One match stands in the way for Alcaraz and winning gold on his debut.
