The fans were equally thrilled by Alcaraz’s show of stunning skill. No stranger to shots like these, the Spaniard quite often comes up with outrageous moments.
Carlos Alcaraz only behind Rafael Nadal in an incredible clay stat
World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the third round of the French Open with a strong four-set win over Fabian Marozsan. The No. 2 seed overcame a brief stumble in the second set to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Court Philippe-Chatrier. He broke Marozsan eight times and showed complete control in three of the four sets.

This match marked a bit of redemption for Alcaraz, who had previously lost to Marozsan at the 2023 Italian Open. Despite the Hungarian’s efforts in the second set, Alcaraz responded with dominance, showcasing the form expected of a title contender.
With this victory, Alcaraz now holds 20 wins at Roland Garros from just 23 matches. Since 2000, only Rafael Nadal reached that mark faster, having won his first 20 matches without a loss. Nadal went on to win his first 31 matches in Paris, setting a standard few have approached.
Alcaraz also boasts one of the best win rates on clay in the modern era. His 98-19 record gives him an 83.8% winning percentage on the surface. Among players with at least 25 clay matches, only Nadal and Bjorn Borg have higher success rates. Alcaraz’s next opponent will be Damir Dzumhur.
Joao Fonseca joins Carlos Alcaraz in an elite stat
Joao Fonseca made a brilliant start to his Roland Garros career by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. The Brazilian teenager claimed a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory in the opening round. With this performance, he became one of the youngest winners at the tournament in the last decade.

At just 18 years old, Fonseca is the second-youngest player to win a match at Roland Garros in the past ten years. Only Carlos Alcaraz was younger when he won in 2021. Despite his age, Fonseca showed confidence and composure throughout the match.
He broke Hurkacz twice in the first set and once again early in the second. His aggressive style and a standout cross-court volley thrilled the crowd. Fonseca controlled the match from the start and never allowed the higher-ranked player to settle.
So far this season, Fonseca holds an 11-7 record in tour-level matches. He made headlines earlier in the year by beating Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open. He also captured his first tour-level title in Buenos Aires shortly after that.
