Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that Novak Djokovic was on a different level against Rafael Nadal on Monday (July 29). The Spaniard watched his compatriot and idol succumb to a disappointing second-round singles loss at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the match, Djokovic started strong, gave Nadal no chance to settle down, and took the first set 6-1. He continued in like same fashion in the second set and led 4-0 before the Spaniard began to take control of the game. He rallied back into the match and drew level at 4-4 before Djokovic bounced back by winning the remaining two breakpoints and sealing victory in straight sets.
Nadal failed to impose himself on the match as Djokovic came through the largely one-sided contest with ease. His doubles partner Alcaraz revealed that the Serbian played at a much higher level than his compatriot.
When Djokovic is playing at this level it's really, really difficult to play against him. He was really aggressive, made no mistakes, moving very, very well. I saw Rafa playing let's say not his best tennis for sure. But when Djokovic is like this, he was the better one.Carlos Alcaraz said (via Barrons)
Djokovic walked one step closer to his dream of winning gold at the Paris Olympics. The Serbian has won 98 titles in his career but has only one bronze medal to show for from the Summer Games.
Carlos Alcaraz beats Dutch Tallon Griekspoor to reach the third round of the Paris Olympics
Carlos Alcaraz maintained his composure to beat Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of the Paris Olympics. Despite an injury scare, he won 6-1, 7-6(3), earning his 17th win in the last 18 matches.
Alcaraz will face Roman Safiulin in the third round of the singles. He also has one-eye in the doubles, where he is partnering Rafael Nadal. The 21-year-old, who has been dealing with a groin niggle, has stated that he will give his 100 percent in both singles and doubles.
It’s a pain that I’ve been dealing with the last tournaments so I know what I have to do. It’s normal for a tennis player as this game is so demanding. I will try to recover and be ready and at 100 percent in the doubles.

Nadal will be banking on Alcaraz to help him win a medal in the doubles after his singles hopes were torn to shreds by Djokovic. They will play Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koophel in the doubles on Tuesday (July 30).
