Carlos Alcaraz is not someone who gets complacent after one big achievement. He knows he has to keep improving and even though he has titles to boast about, Alcaraz doesn’t want to be on cloud nine because of his past achievements.
He won two back-to-back titles last year on grass. The Queen’s Club Championships trophy he lifted by beating Alex de Minaur in the final, then topped it off with his second major title by upsetting Novak Djokovic in five sets in the Wimbledon final.
After beating Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 in the ongoing Queen’s Club Championships, the 21-year-old admitted he wants to stay grounded and continue to learn on the grass courts.
No matter what tournament I'm in or how much I've accomplished, I have to keep learning. I have to improve every day. Every time I step on a grass court, I have to learn how to move better and play better. I feel like I'm still learning here.Carlos Alcaraz said after the match
Alcaraz arrived in London after a successful campaign at Roland Garros where he became the three-time major champion by defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in five sets in the final.
Carlos Alcaraz found it hard to play his first match on grass
Carlos Alcaraz has the task of defending his title at the Queen’s Club Championships and maintaining his winning streak since last year’s event. Shifting his focus onto the grass after weeks of playing on clay made it difficult for the young Spaniard to adapt himself, which he admitted after his win over Francisco Cerundolo.
The first match in any tournament is never easy, but even more difficult here on grass, starting the grass season. You want to have a good result and have to deal with a lot of expectations that you put on yourself.Carlos Alcaraz said after the match
He will next play either Stuttgart champion Jack Draper or Mariano Navone in the next round. Alcaraz has met Draper two times, winning both matches. But with Navone, it will be his first match if the Argentine advances to the next round.
If Alcaraz, who is also the first seed, wins in London, then it will be his third title of the season, having won the Indian Wells Masters and the Roland Garros.
