As a two time defending champion in Barcelona, the Spaniard also expressed his disappointment in having to miss out on one of his favorite tournament. However, he remains hopeful about the Madrid Open, another event that he has won the past two years.
At the recent press conference, Alcaraz gave a detailed update on his injury, how he felt the pain while training in Monaco, and tried to return in time, but the Barcelona Open was too early for him. Even after taking multiple tests, Alcaraz experienced the same pain as he increased the intensity of his forehand.
My goal is to be in Madrid, but I'm not at all clear about it. They told me some deadlines, I met them, but I still don't have a good feeling.said Carlos Alcaraz via Barcelona Press

However, there is still a lot of uncertainty lingering around his comeback. This has been an injury-ridden season for the Spaniard, who has not been able to bring out his best yet.
I can’t say I’ll be 100 percent in Madrid, but that’s my intention. We’ll train and do everything we can so that the feelings improve so I can play a tennis match. Hopefully, I can enjoy the fans in Madrid and play at home. It’s also a very special tournament for me.said Carlos Alcaraz
After the Australian Open, the 20-year-old suffered an ankle injury at the Rio Open, where he had to pull out. Despite the pain and side effects, he played at the Indian Wells to win another Masters title. However, as the tour headed to Monaco, the Spaniard suffered another injury, keeping him out of the game thus far. With the French Open and Olympics coming up, all eyes will be on Alcaraz’s return.
