Carlos Alcaraz is in Cincinnati for the ATP 1000 Masters event. It will be his first tournament since clinching the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ahead of his first-round match, a video of him signing autographs for kids after his practice session went viral on social media. Eager kids wanting to have Alcaraz’s autograph flocked in front of him, but the Spaniard saw the adults standing behind pushing the kids to come forward.

The Cincinnati Open first-round will be his first match on hard court since last playing at the 2024 Miami Open quarterfinals in March. This season, Alcaraz has won just one title on the hard court, the Indian Wells Masters.

In his opening match at the Cincinnati Open scheduled on August 14, Alcaraz is set to lock horns with either Gael Monfils or Alexei Popyrin, who recently won the Canadian Open by beating Andrey Rublev in the final. The Spaniard is 2-0 against Monfils and 1-0 against Popyrin.

The World No.3 has won three titles on the ATP Tour and the Olympic silver, which he won by losing to Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Apart from the Indian Wells, the other two were the Grand Slam trophies he won at Wimbledon and French Open.

Last year in Cincinnati, Alcaraz reached the final but lost in three sets to Djokovic, who withdrew from the tournament after clinching the gold medal. If Alcaraz wins in the final, it will be his second ATP 1000 Masters title.

Alcaraz is 38-7 on the season. At a press conference ahead of his first-round match at the Cincinnati Open, the Spaniard revealed that ending the year as a World No.1 player is one of his main goals.

Following the Cincinnati Open, Alcaraz will gear up for the season’s last Grand Slam event in New York. He won the title in 2022, which was also his first major trophy of his career.
