On Tuesday, 9-time All-Star Carlos Beltran was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. The former Kansas City Royals and New York Mets star received a total of 84.2 per cent votes. His induction, however, did not sit well with the fans.
The former outfielder was one of the 27 players on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) ballot. Apart from 15 holdovers from previous years, there were 12 first-time eligible players.
As per the BBWAA rules, a player needs a minimum of 75 per cent votes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This was Beltran’s 4th year on the ballot, having failed to receive the required amount in his previous three attempts.
This year, he received 84.2 per cent with 358 votes, which saw him punch his ticket to Cooperstown. He thus became the 6th Puerto Rican player to be inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame.
Bravo, Carlos Beltrán 👏

After being picked by the Royals in the 1995 MLB draft, he made his debut in September 1998. In just 14 games that year, the switch-hitter got 16 hits with 5 doubles, 3 triples and 7 RBIs while hitting with a .276 average.
The next season, he hit 22 home runs and had 108 RBIs while batting at a .293 average in 156 games. This saw him win the American League Rookie of the Year award.
After spending one season with the Houston Astros in 2004, he would join the New York Mets, where he further cemented his legacy. He picked up 3 Gold Glove and 2 Silver Slugger Awards with the Mets.
He would also spend time with the San Francisco Giants, the St. Louis Cardinals and even donned the pinstripes of the New York Yankees. Following a one-year spell with the Texas Rangers in 2016, he returned to the Astros in 2017.
It was with the Astros this season that he won the World Series. After the season, he announced his retirement. He finished his career with 435 home runs, 1,537 RBIs, 2,725 hits and a .279 batting average.
Two years later, in 2019, he found his name in controversy. Following the breakout of the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, he was revealed to be the mastermind of this. In 2020, he would part ways with the Mets without ever managing a game, as his name came up in this investigation.
Fans slam MLB Hall of Fame following induction of Carlos Beltran
During his playing career, Carlos Beltran established himself as one of the greatest center fielders of all time. However, his involvement in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal left a sour taste in the mouth of many fans.

Following his induction into the Hall of Fame, several fans on X raised their voices. Many called out the Hall of Fame voters and slammed them. One user wrote, “HOF is becoming a joke,” while taking a swipe at the results.

"Character?" "Integrity?" "SPORTSMANSHIP?" So, ringleader of one of the biggest cheating scandals is ok. But, steroid users are not? No. Sorry. Bullshit. Cheating is cheating. If you vote Beltran, you must vote Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, etc. Complete hypocrisy. @baseballhall = sham.

Apart from Beltran, center fielder Andruw Jones was also inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. The former Atlanta Braves star received 78.4 per cent votes in this 9th time on the ballot.
Carlos Beltran claims Mets hat is not guaranteed on his Hall of Fame plaque
After a two-decade career, Carlos Beltran on Tuesday earned his place in the MLB Hall of Fame. As he celebrated this huge moment in his life, he expressed that he is unsure which hat will be included in his Hall of Fame plaque.

Last year, Beltran told the New York Post that he would be donning the Mets cap if he got inducted. This time, he did not give the same level of commitment and expressed that he would speak with his family and then make a decision.
There’s no doubt that my best years in baseball are with two teams, the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets. That’s a decision I would love to sit down with my family, with Jessica, with my kids and make a decision on that. I did really enjoy my time in New York. Now I work as an advisor for the Mets, so there’s a lot of weight wearing the New York [Mets] cap.
Carlos Beltran told MLB Network
Now that Carlos Beltrán is elected to the Hall of Fame, which hat will he wear on his plaque?

Beltran, along with Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent (elected through the Contemporary Era Ballot) will take their place in Cooperstown on July 26.
