Carlos Correa is back in Houston. On the trade deadline day on Thursday, the shortstop was traded away to the Houston Astros by the Minnesota Twins. Following this shocking deal, he shared an ‘electric‘ message.

Correa, one of the most popular figures in Astros history, had struggled for consistency with the Twins this year. In the 93 games he played this season for the AL Central side, Correa had a slash line of .267/.319/.386 with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs.

Following a slow start, he would get hot in May, then suffer a slump in June and recover a bit in July. On Thursday, he would agree to waive his no-trade clause. The Astros were the only team he was willing to waive his no-trade clause.

I let them know there was only one team I would allow that to happen.

While speaking regarding his move back to Houston, the 3-time All-Star claimed that he could not wait to get started with the team again. As for his message to the Astros fans, the shortstop expressed that his one aim was to win the championship now.

It’s going to be electric, it’s going to be a lot of fun and I cannot wait to get started with the guys again. I’m coming home and there’s only one goal in mind and that’s to win championships.

As per reports from MLB.com, the Twins will now send $33 million to help cover his remaining contract. The 30-year-old is owed $96 million through 2028, with club options from 2029-2032. The Twins would receive Minor League left-handed pitcher Matt Mikulski in exchange for Correa.

Carlos Correa to play 3B following return to Astros

Following his return to the Houston Astros, Carlos Correa will play in a new position. Instead of his regular shortstop spot, he will move to third base and play in this position from now on.

The 3B is one position the Astros had been looking to fill. In the last offseason, they lost Gold Glove 3B Alex Bregman to free agency. The player would end up joining the Boston Red Sox on a 3-year $40 million deal.

The Astros would have Isaac Paredes play in this position. However, the All-Star suffered a hamstring strain while running to first base during the Astros’ 7-6 loss to the Mariners on July 19. It was later revealed that his injury is a bit more severe than originally anticipated, which could keep him sidelined for the entirety of the season.

Correa, who was drafted by the Astros in 2012 as a shortstop, will now play as the 3rd baseman. This is one position that the player was hoping to play during his time in Minnesota.

I’ve been wanting to play third base for the past couple of years, but it wasn’t happening in Minnesota. We were waiting for a shortstop to come in and now that I get to play third base it would be great for me at this stage of my career.

Correa’s first game back with the Astros will be against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. This means he will play in the 3rd base position against his former teammate Alex Bregman.

This move of Correa also comes at a time when the Astros are trying to keep their win streak going following a 5-game losing run. The American League West leaders were recently swept in a 4-game series by their division rivals, the Athletics.

The Astros were outscored 32-7 in that series sweep against the A’s. They would then lose 2-1 to the Washington Nationals before picking up back-to-back wins to leave them with a 62-47 record. Following the 3-game series against the Red Sox, they will travel to Miami and New York to take on the Marlins and the Yankees, respectively.
