- Prates aims for a second consecutive victory over a former champion after defeating Leon Edwards.
- The fighters engaged in intense mind games during the weigh-in, with Prates attempting to rattle Maddalena.
Carlos Prates and Jack Della Maddalena are set to headline UFC Perth tomorrow. Today, at the ceremonial weigh-ins, the two came face-to-face for the final time before they are locked in the octagon together on Saturday. Things got intense during their faceoff with so much on the line for both fighters.
Prates is looking to finish two former champions in consecutive fights after his knockout victory over Leon Edwards at UFC 322. On the other hand, Jack Della Maddalena lost his welterweight title at the same pay-per-view to Islam Makhachev. So, the Australian will be looking to rebound with a win over Prates.
The high stakes were clear to see during the face-off between the top 5 welterweights. The two refused to break their gaze during their face-off. In fact, Prates and Maddalena had to be separated by security and UFC executive Mick Maynard before things got out of hand. However, the ‘Nightmare’ still got in a few words to mess with his opponent.
Why you scared, bro? Why you scared, boy?

Prates’ violent style has won him many fans, but his shenanigans outside the octagon have also made him a fan favorite. Instances like the one at today’s weigh-in, or him and Arman Tsarukyan hilariously running away from a brawl at a press conference, have greatly endeared him to fans.
Nonetheless, the mind games have begun with the fight less than 24 hours away. Prates appears to be comfortable heading into this fight, even calling Australia his second home. As such, it makes sense that he would attempt to rattle Jack Della Maddalena in the final confrontation before their fight.
However, not all of the recent interactions between Prates and Jack Della Maddalena have gone down this way. The two met earlier this week while promoting the fight, which ended with a heart-warming interaction between.
Jack Della Maddalena faces off against Carlos Prates’ daughter
There is a deeper reason behind Carlos Prates calling Australia his second home. Prates’ daughter, Skylar, actually lives in Sydney with her mother. The ‘Nightmare’ recently revealed in an interview with Guilherme Cruz that he only gets to see his daughter once a year. Hence, he tries to maximize his time with her while trying to be the best parent he can.

To that end, Prates took his daughter along to a promotional engagement he had for UFC Perth. At that event, he came face-to-face with Jack Della Maddalena. The knockout artist pointed out the Australian UFC star to his daughter as the “bad guy”, which led to JDM correcting him.
Not the bad guy, good guy. Good guy.
Jack Della Maddalena said
This interaction was ultimately capped off by Skylar being told to show Maddalena her “best faceoff.” She obliged by squaring up to the Australian, which prompted a laugh from everyone present.

This interaction between Prates’ daughter and JDM was extremely wholesome. Moreover, it ended better than the last. The Australian met a fellow welterweight’s child. Back at UFC 315, what began with Ian Garry‘s son handing Maddalena a few M&Ms ended with the former champion questioning Garry’s fatherhood. So, all things considered, JDM meeting Carlos Prates’ daughter went well.
However, these elite welterweights will need to put their niceties aside in less than a day’s time when they face each other in the octagon. Prates has already called for a title fight if he wins on Saturday. On the other hand, Jack Della Maddalena has claimed that the events of UFC 322 “haunt” him. Hence, he will also be itching for a chance at a do-over.
