With the Yankees losing 13 of their 18 past games, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone had to make some tough calls. While the calls were to gain a strategic advantage, their starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was infuriated to have a callback. The incident took place during the team’s game against Cincinnati Reds where they lost in a 3-2 fashion.
Although Rodon performed relatively well compared to his last couple of games, he was called off the mound after his 95th shot. In Wednesday’s game, he retired Reds players in order but found himself in a pinch when Noelvi Marte shot a 2-run HR.
This affected the Yankees in the long run as the team ended up losing the match. Additionally, in the 5th inning, Rodon allowed a solo homer to a 3-run game to Stuart Fairchild after throwing a slider down and in. Following the end of the 6th inning, Boone went up to the mound to pull him down.
He was fairly upset with the manager’s decision as he mouthed, “No way, no way.” Rodon also appeared to yell in his gloves by covering his mouth as he walked towards the dugout. His teammate Gerrit Cole seemed to calm him down later on.

There were some pitches I would like to have back…I wish I kept some runs off the board and give the boys a better chance. It’s on to the next now.Carlos Rodon as per X.
"I don't want it to come off the wrong way. I wanted to stay in and get those last two outs in that inning, but I understand turning it over to Tonkin and he gets two outs easy. He's great."

Later during the interview, he said he understood where Aaron Boone was coming from and why Michael Tonkin was chosen for the last two outs in the inning. Boone also said he has confidence in Rodon and hopes he builds up the momentum in their next game against the Rays.
Yankees pitcher Luis Gil suffering from breakdown in team’s latest performance
New York Yankees Carlos Rodon was not the only pitcher to have a breakdown during their last game. Pitcher Luis Gil lost his third straight game, allowing 4 runs and 2 hits with 3 walks and 2 hit batters in the team’s 5-4 loss against the Reds on Tuesday. The last few matches for the team did not go as planned as they ended up piling more losses compared to their winning streak.
Although Gil’s effort could not boost the team to victory, he did make a solid start in Tuesday’s game. Boone commented on Gil’s struggles saying,
“I don’t think this is a fatigue issue. I think it’s a little out-of-sorts issue and having a harder time correcting on the fly.”

Luis Gil remains positive despite the last slump. He believes working hard will eventually allow him to be in control more and compete at the highest level. There the still games left before fans can call it over. For now, it’ll be interesting to keep an eye on how the NY Yankees perform next week.
