For many years, the NBA Dunk Contest has remained platform where creativity soars and gravity is defied. Every year, fans from all around the world watched with wide eyes and pounding hearts, eager to watch their favorite basketball stars take off. It is more than just dunks; it was about ingenuity, style, and the unadulterated, electrifying response of the audience.
However, the contest that once crowned kings of the air is now struggling to maintain momentum. What was once a show-stopper, graced by legends like Michael Jordan and Dwight Howard has turned into a drab performance by G-Leaguers and bench players with their amazing athleticism. Concerning this, NBA legend Carmelo Anthony had an interesting take on the Dunk contest for the coming year.
Melo wants the young players in the league to step up and entertain the crowd. On his show, he invited high-profile athletes like Zion Williamson, Anthony Edwards, and Ja Morant to compete in the Dunk Contest.
I wanna see the Ja’s, right? I wanna see the Ant Edwards, he has to do it at least once. Ja and Zion, you got those three in there. And you can add somebody from the rookies, you know, get Flagg in there, I wanna see VJ Edgecombe in Philly in the dunk contest.
Carmelo Anthony said on the 7 PM in Brookyln Podcast
"We gotta get Ant, Ja, and Zion [in the dunk contest] … I'm gonna do what I gotta do to get those guys."

Despite putting on incredible performances and winning three straight titles, Mac McClung did so without even having a spot on an NBA roster. It indicates that something is absent from the superstar-level players. It is not the skill, but the focus, the dedication, and most importantly, there is not much competition during the contest as well.
Naturally, Melo’s request is made from a business perspective. Since NBC owns the rights to All-Star Weekend and he will be joining their broadcast team for the upcoming season, Melo wants the up-and-coming talent to perform. In one way, this would also benefit his network and get the NBA audience on their toes like the old days.
Carmelo Anthony opened up on the misconception regarding the lifestyle of some NBA players
There’s a narrative that quietly lingers around the NBA—a misconception that players, because they earn millions, lives recklessly. They throw money at parties, strip clubs, and luxury for the sake of appearance. The world often chooses to see the flash, not the foundation—the lifestyle, not the discipline.

To challenge that perception, Carmelo Anthony recently spoke out on his 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast. With honesty and experience, he pulled back the curtain on what life as an NBA player truly looks like—one marked not just by wealth, but by sacrifice, structure, and responsibility.
Everybody thinks that you are going there to get lap dances. You’re going there for the bulls***. No, you’re not going there for the bulls***. You’re really going there to clear your mind. You go there to just relax and clear your mind. You might have a drink, might have some food.

From the time of Dennis Rodman to current NBA players like James Harden and Ja Morant, many have spotted the players entering strip clubs when traveling with their teams. Anthony draws attention to the fact that NBA veterans view strip joints as a part of the league’s culture and utilize them as a place for players to relax.
Carmelo Anthony has high ambitions regarding his business plans
NBA players create empires in addition to earning paychecks. Their careers are more than just seasons and numbers; they are stepping stones to ownership, history, and lasting influence, thanks to big contracts and brand endorsements. The blueprint was established by Michael Jordan, and he moved into a new arena—ownership—after ruling the court.
Another legend is now attempting to go down that route. Carmelo Anthony, who is renowned for his vision outside of basketball in addition to his scoring prowess, is attempting to acquire his own team. Anthony stated that he would adore purchasing the Washington Wizards and establishing a brand-new basketball culture.
I want to buy the Wizards. I would be a great owner. I’m a former player, I understand players, I understand personnel, being strategic, how to build teams and I also understand what I don’t understand.

With a miserable 16-59 record, the Wizards finished in last place in the Eastern Conference. The 2020–21 season was their most recent post-season appearance. The former NBA star may make a significant difference because of his extensive expertise on and off the court. His in-depth knowledge of the game and the nuances of creating a winning squad might be just what the Wizards need.
