The SmackDown roster was in dire need of someone to step up and lead by example. Two of its men have done exactly that.

Highly-personal non title feud on SmackDown receives “high marks” from WWE higher-ups for getting fans invested: Reports

SmackDown has been in its rebuilding phase since conceding the star power to Raw in this year’s WWE Draft. There’s been a handful of bright spots on the show. What a shame it’d be to turn a blind eye to what Carmelo Hayes and Andrade have achieved over the past month or so. They’ve been at daggers drawn since Money in the Bank.

Since the PLE, both men have met each other thrice in the ring. And every time they’ve gone at it, Melo and El Edolo have garnered adulation from the fans in attendance. Not only the WWE Universe thinks highly of the two men-in-question, but also the top brass of the company is sailing on the same boat, per Fightful Select. For a feud that does not have a title involved, it’s a massive pat on the back.

As things stand, Carmelo Hayes is trailing at 1-2 against Andrade. Had he not won their previous encounter, the former NXT Champion would’ve been totally down and out by now. However, a roll-up win, quite aptly a steal over Edolo, proved to be a shot in the arm for Hayes. Brimming with renewed confidence, Carmelo is wearing his heart on the sleeve.

This week on SmackDown, Melo was confronted by Andrade. The latter was upset about the disrespect inflicted on him by The A-Champion a couple of weeks ago. On that note, the Mexican wrestler challenged Hayes for part-IV of their series of matches next week in Berlin. Melo didn’t back down, and it has been made official. If the Killanova outhits the reigning WWE Speed Champion in Germany’s capital, he’ll draw things level at two matches apiece. It might then boil down to a decider.

Major heel turn almost happened on this week’s SmackDown

The Undisputed WWE title is set to be defended at Bash in Berlin. Cody Rhodes handpicked Kevin Owens for a crack at the gold out of courtesy. But now, things are getting tense between them.

For the past couple of weeks, WWE has emphasized how Owens has had a history of betraying his friends when there’s something to gain. In this situation, Kevin has an opportunity to capture the world title next week. Does he stay clean till then?

He almost smashed Cody in the back last night on SmackDown. But as soon as The Prizefighter realized Rhodes was not there for the taking, Owens faked a moment and handed the undisputed title to Cody in a dramatic fashion. The turn is almost there. However, it’d be interesting to see how long WWE is going to milk it out.
