John Cena made his long-awaited return at the Money in the Bank PLE and shocked the world. He announced that he would be going on a retirement tour in 2025 before finally hanging up his boots. Many superstars expressed their desire to be one of his opponents in his final few matches. One of those superstars was Carmelo Hayes, who sent a message to the 16-time world champion.

While speaking in an interview with Denise Salcedo, Carmelo Hayes shared his thoughts on John Cena‘s retirement announcement. The former NXT Champion stated that The Leader of the Cenation openly challenged everyone for a match, and he was going to seize that opportunity. Hayes further added that he was among the first in line to challenge Cena.

Some might say the 30-year-old star even took a dig at the future Hall of Famer and stated that it was his time to shine now. He has made a name for himself on the SmackDown brand since he was drafted there in the 2024 WWE Draft a few months ago. After the disappointing Money in the Bank ladder match, Hayes became involved in a heated rivalry with Andrade.

John Cena, he's on his retirement tour. He put out the message. He said, you want some, come get some. I think, to be honest, I'm right at the front of the line of people that are going to come get some. So, John, I'm just letting you know, just giving you the heads up. Your time is up and time is now.

Both stars had a series of matches, with the 30-year-old star finally earning a victory over the Mexican wrestler. Speaking about The Doctor of Thuganomics, he clarified that next year’s Elimination Chamber, Royal Rumble, and WrestleMania would be his last ones. Cena will finally retire at the end of the year 2025, and fans will enjoy his final run as much as possible.

Carmelo Hayes speaks about the criticism certain WWE stars face from fans

Many fans consider Carmelo Hayes one of the most talented stars in WWE. However, an unfortunate fact is that since his debut on the main roster, the 30-year-old hasn’t been able to win a title. Despite that, his opinion on fans trolling any superstar just because they haven’t won a title yet was quite interesting and mature.

While speaking in the same interview, Hayes admitted that he was still new to the main roster. He tried to debunk the myth that a superstar is a failure if they don’t win a major title soon after arriving on the main roster. The former NXT Champion emphasized that reaching the top of the mountain is a long game, not a sprint.

I’m still so new to this main roster thing. You know what I mean? People think if you’re not Champion or you’re not beating everybody in the first two months, you’re a failure, you’re buried, or you’re a jobber. That’s the new thing, right? Everybody’s a jobber, everybody’s buried. So, we’re on a journey, y’all. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Carmelo Hayes added

Even though he has yet to win any title on SmackDown, the WWE Universe is well aware of his potential. Before defeating Andrade on the latest episode of the blue brand, Hayes even scored a victory over a legend like Randy Orton. Needless to say, it won’t take long for him to find his groove on the main roster.
