French WTA star Caroline Garcia has heaped massive praise on Iga Swiatek, the World No. 1 as she called the Polish ace a “robot”. Garcia also drew a parallel between Swiatek’s game and Novak Djokovic‘s on-court game. The Frenchwoman claimed that playing against Swiatek is like playing against a wall because it is tough to breach her defense.
Speaking on the latest episode of ‘Zack en Roue Libre’ podcast, Garcia talked about her experiences of playing against the Polish ace. She credited Swiatek for highlighting the importance of good mental health for tennis players by traveling on the tour with a psychologist.
Garcia then delved deeper into her experience of facing Iga Swiatek and claimed that the World No. 1 rarely gives her opponent a chance. She claimed that Swiatek has big coverage of the ground much like Novak Djokovic and she also does not have a weak point that can be exploited by her opponents.
Not in the bad sense of the word, but you have a bit of a robot in front with a bit of emotion. One of the first who really brought all the mental preparation, psychologist, etc...Big coverage of the ground quite similar to Djokovic bit and you have the impression that you don't have a weak point, you don't have too many openings. You have a bit of a wall. You do something which is good but you're happy with it and it's true that it's still quite impressive.Caroline Garcia said on the Zack en Roue Libre podcast.
A look at Iga Swiatek’s strengths
As described by Caroline Garcia, Iga Swiatek has a really strong defense. On top of that, the Polish ace has a formidable attacking game which she uses to intimidate her opponents. Swiatek goes for the kill from the word go and does not allow her opponents to enjoy an advantage over her.
Swiatek’s thunderous forehand is also one of her biggest strengths and allows her to win points with ease. Also, her movement on the court, as mentioned by Garcia, is as quick as it can get which allows her to return shots fired from any corner of the court. Clay courts are considered a real challenge for tennis players as they find it difficult to move across, Swiatek enjoys an upper hand with her agility.
Swiatek also generates great topspin on her shots which has helped her immensely in winning matches. Last but not least, her composure throughout a match also plays an important role in wearing down opponents.
