In Short
  • Iga Swiatek has parted ways with coach Wim Fissette following a disappointing start to the season.
  • Caroline Wozniacki's father, Piotr, suggested David Celt as a potential replacement for Swiatek's coaching position.
  • Swiatek needs to appoint a new coach before the end of March to prepare for the upcoming clay-court season.

Iga Swiatek’s search for a new coach is officially underway after she announced her split with Wim Fisette following her disappointing Miami Open campaign. Swiatek has not reached a semi-final this season and has not beaten a top-10 player on tour, which is uncharacteristic of the former No.1, who once dominated the women’s circuit.

Her first poor performance came at the Qatar Open, a tournament she was the favorite to win after Aryna Sabalenka withdrew. She reached the quarter-finals of the event but was stunned by Maria Sakkari. She then skipped the Dubai Tennis Championships to prepare adequately for the Sunshine Doubles.

At Indian Wells, she was hoping to win her first title and looked like doing so after breezing past Qatar champion Karolina Muchova in straight sets in the round of 16. But yet again, she couldn’t get past the quarter-finals, losing to Elina Svitolina in three sets. The biggest shock came at the Miami Open, where she was beaten in three sets by Magda Linette.

The loss marked the first time in 73 tournaments that Swiatek failed to win her opening match in a tour-level tournament. She stressed after the loss that it was the worst nightmare of her career. Days later, she confirmed that the partnership with Fisette has come to an end after over a year and five months together.

Since then, there have been rumors of the likely coach that Swiatek will work with ahead of the clay season, which starts next month. With little time left, some have rumored that Caroline Wozniacki’s father, Piotr, could be her next coach. But the legendary coach has admitted to Interia Sport that he doesn’t know anything about becoming Swiatek’s coach:

I definitely won’t be Iga Świątek’s new coach. Someone passed this by. No one talked to me. And even if they did, I’d finished my coaching career. Honestly, after Karolina ended her career, I received very good offers, but now is not the right time. I have a wonderful family, grandchildren, granddaughters, and so on, and I know how much it costs. And I know how much energy, time, and true dedication it takes.

Fisette took over from Tomasz Wiktorowski after he parted ways with Swiatek in August 2024. Wiktorowski oversaw Swiatek’s rise on tour and won three Grand Slams and became World No.1 under his tutelage before they ended their partnership in 2024. Currently, Wiktorowski has been coaching four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka since July 2025.

Iga Swiatek told whom to appoint as new coach ahead of the clay season

There are rumors that Iga Swiatek and Tomasz Wiktorowski may reunite after Naomi Osaka indicated that she could take an extended break, perhaps even retire, in order to spend more time with her daughter, if she continues to lose in the opening rounds of the tournament. The Japanese star is struggling with form just like Swiatek this season.

However, during the aforementioned interview, Caroline Wozniacki’s father, Piotr, was asked who Swiatek should go for as coach following her disappointing start to the season. The legendary coach revealed that the Polish star should appoint Dawid Celt, who was the hitting partner to Agnieszka Radwanska. He’s currently the Polish team coach for the Billie Jean King Cup:

If Iga Swiatek’s team, or Iga herself, hasn’t yet made a decision regarding Wim Fissette’s successor, I’m speaking out and I know what I’m talking about. Dawid Celt should be considered.

Swiatek will need to find a coach before the end of March as she will need to prepare for the upcoming clay-court season. Last year, she did badly during the clay season, failing to win a tournament. She has the opportunity to win more ranking points this year by playing her best game on the red dirt.
