The NFL is a tough and competitive league. The pressure to perform is constantly on the players, especially starters, and for quarterbacks, it is either perform or perish. For five seasons, Carson Wentz gave his heart and soul to the city of Philadelphia and while his career began to decline after his departure, his time with the Eagles will be unforgettable for him.

In 2018, Wentz was well on his way to winning an MVP. He was having a remarkable season, with 3,074 yards and 21 touchdowns. However, an injury forced him to sit on the sidelines for the remainder of the year. At that point, the Eagles were certain their playoff hopes were dead in the water.

However, Nick Foles turned out to be a godsend as he led Philadelphia to their first Super Bowl win. Carson Wentz, who is now a backup to Patrick Mahomes on the Kansas City Chiefs was asked an interesting question ahead of Super Bowl LIX. The quarterback took his time to process the question but he was confident regarding his answer. There was a sense of melancholy in his tone, as though he genuinely wished he could have been the person to lead Philly to their first championship.

Well, I don’t know. I mean I’m not going to lie, I would love to trade places with Nick Foles and go win that Super Bowl back in the day. After that season, that would have been a pretty cool ending to that season but it was still pretty sweet for him nonetheless.

Is there any doubt that the Eagles would have made it to the championship if Wentz had stayed on? No. However, would Carson Wentz have led Philly to a win over Tom Brady and the Patriots? That would be a hard question to definitively answer. But it must have been harder for Wentz to have seen Foles in that position and not think, ‘That should’ve been me.’ There is no bad blood between the two quarterbacks because ultimately the team succeeded.

To this day, Wentz is loved in Philadelphia, the fans empathize with his situation in 2018. After all, he had a key role in helping the team finish with a 13-3 regular season record. In retrospect, his career has never been the same since.

However, Foles was fated to be the person to lead Philly to the franchise’s first Super Bowl win. Irrespective of how things turned out, both Wentz and Foles are champions and nobody can take that away from them.
