CAS bans Mauritian badminton player Kate Foo Kune for two years following anti-doping violation

Badminton player Kate Foo Kune of Mauritius was banned for two years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for an anti-doping violation. Foo Kune came under the scanner during the African Badminton World Championships in 2019 after testing positive for steroids.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) however, dismissed the case saying she was not at fault for the same. The reason that was given was that the results of the test was sabotaged and that her samples were replaced and tampered with. However, the case was taken to the CAS by the BWF and the CAS made its decision today.
‘No supporting evidence for Foo Kune’s claims’

In the decision made by the CAS today, a statement was released along with that of the ban for Foo Kune which read, “On the basis of the evidence … the CAS panel found the athlete’s assertion of intentional spiking during the 2019 African Badminton World Championships devoid of supporting evidence.”
The BWF maintained its claims during the hearing that Foo Kune did not use the steroid on purpose. However, towards the end, they agreed that she could benefit from the steroid. Foo Kune will now not be allowed to take part in any professional badminton event for a period of two years: starting from December 15, 2020.
