Casper Ruud and Carlos Alcaraz are in San Francisco, the host city for the eighth edition of the Laver Cup. They are representing Team Europe and will play under new captain Yannick Noah.

The tournament is set to start on September 19. Ahead of the tournament, players from both Team World and Team Europe were questioned about Alcaraz’s new blond makeover. When it was Ruud’s turn, he revealed the new nickname for the World No.1, inspired by his hairstyle.

We’re currently discussing what nickname we could give him. ‘Silver Fox’ is a pretty good one. You know, his hair grows really fast. It was blond two days ago, and now it’s already turning silver. In a few days, it will be even darker. ‘Silver Fox’ is a good nickname for him, and I think it’s cool.

Ruud has participated in four editions of the Laver Cup since 2021. But his teammate Alcaraz made his debut last year and helped the team take home the trophy after defeating Taylor Fritz in the tournament’s final match.

Ruud has so far featured in six matches, winning four and losing two. Last year, Alcaraz played in four matches and clinched three wins, including two in singles; he lost only in doubles, which he played with Alexander Zverev against the pair of Ben Shelton and Fritz.

The Laver Cup is Ruud’s as well as Alcaraz’s first tournament since the US Open. The Norwegian ace suffered a five-set defeat to an unseeded Raphael Collignon in the second round, while the Spaniard went on to clinch his second US Open title (his first was in 2022 by beating Ruud) by securing a four-set win over arch-rival Jannik Sinner, who has yet to make his debut in the tournament created by Roger Federer.

This year, Ruud has so far reached two finals and clinched only the Madrid Open by defeating Jack Draper. After the Laver Cup, both Ruud and Alcaraz will be playing the ATP 500 Japan Open.

On the day of his first-round match at the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz‘s brother gave him a buzz cut that became the talking point of the town. Alcaraz’s hairstyle is still making headlines as his colleagues, one after the other, praised him as well as mocked him. During the US Open, Frances Tiafoe called it “terrible” and “horrible“.

Before the US Open final, Alcaraz promised that he would have a new haircut after the tournament. After he fulfilled the promise, he took a picture and showed it to Alexander Zverev.

We talked about it. He texted me and sent me a picture before I saw it live. Look, a new haircut, apparently it works. Every time he has one, he wins the tournament, so hopefully it’s going to go the same way for Laver Cup.

Sascha suffered a third-round exit at the US Open at the hands of eventual semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime. He has so far played three finals this season, losing at the Stuttgart Open to Taylor Fritz and at the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner. The 28-year-old, however, clinched the ATP 500 Munich Open by defeating Ben Shelton. Alcaraz has won the most on the tour this season (seven trophies from nine finals, including two Majors).

The World No.3 has made five appearances at the Laver Cup since 2017 and has so far played 14 matches, winning 21 points, and has a win-loss record of 9-5. After the Laver Cup, the three-time Grand Slam finalist will play the China Open, which he skipped last year.
