Casper Ruud is one of the emerging players on tour. The Norwegian has achieved tremendous success in the past year, especially on clay courts. Ruud is currently competing at the Madrid Open 2021, where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round in straight sets.
Casper Ruud scored the biggest victory of his career at the Madrid Open 2021, as he secured a straight sets victory over the world number five, Tsitsipas. He will now face Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Norwegian tennis player stated that he draws inspiration from Rafael Nadal, and he has learned a lot from the Spaniard in the recent years.
“Rafa Nadal has helped me a lot in recent years, to reach this level, it’s obvious. Every time I go to the academy, we talk to each other, we train with each other. I still get helped by Toni as well,” said Ruud.
Getting help from Toni is invaluable: Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud also heaped praise on Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal. He revealed that he still gets help from Toni Nadal, although he is involved more personally in Felix Auger Aliassime’s tennis. The Canadian appointed the 60-year old as his coach prior to the Monte Carlo Masters.
“Getting help from Toni is invaluable as well and although he helps Felix more personally, he is still involved in my tennis,” Ruud said.
Casper Ruud has had an amazing start to his clay court season this year. He reached the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, where he lost to Andrey Rublev. He also reached the last four of the Munich Open 2021, losing to the eventual champion, Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets.
