Casper Ruud probably played the best shot of the 2024 Roland Garros when he took on Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round on Court Suzanne Lenglen on Saturday (June 1). Ruud emerged as victorious with scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Ruud played that incredible shot in the third set when both the players had won a set each. In the third set, when Ruud was serving after leading 1-0, he was involved in an interesting rally as both the players played some amazing shots.

They started by playing from the back of the net but when Ruud’s shot touched the net twice, it made them play inside the baseline. One of the Norwegian’s shots made Etcheverry run toward the net to return it, and then Ruud hit a drop shot which Etcheverry defended very well.

Another shot by Ruud landed close to the net but when the Argentine sent the ball near the baseline again, Ruud ran back and played an unbelievable tweener which the 28th seed could not play, resulting in a round of applause from the crowd.

Casper Ruud thanks the Roland Garros crowd for their support late at night

Rain is making it difficult for the matches to get finished. This has invited criticism from the fans as they want the organizers to do something about it. It’s also worth noting that Court Philippe-Chatrier and Court Suzanne Lenglen are the only two courts that have roofs.

Conversations about scheduling have not ended. World No.1 Novak Djokovic chose not to speak about it after a five-set battle with Lorenzo Musetti which ended not before 3 am local time. Casper Ruud, on the other hand, gave a subtle hint that he was not happy with playing late matches, though he thanked the crowd for their presence.

I love tennis and I love Roland Garros. But I’m not sure if I love playing at 1 am. But the fans are here, so I have to be here. Thank you everyone for coming.
Casper Ruud said after the match

Ruud is a two-time Roland Garros finalist, having reached the championship match in 2022 and 2023, losing to 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal and Djokovic respectively.
