Speaking on ‘Beyond The Baseline’, Ruud shared how he has been Nadal’s biggest fan.

“Rafa Nadal is one of the GOATs,” Ruud said.

“I’ve been a fan of him since I started watching tennis. He’s been my biggest idol and the one I’ve looked up to. Even though how much he’s won, he’s extremely humble and works hard today as he did 15 years ago.”

Ruud also recollected an incident when he had met Djokovic in the gym.

The 22-year-old player added: “Last time at the Australian Open Djokovic didn’t have to come to say hi to me at the gym. They’re nice guys and know how to behave well. They have experienced while growing up. Maybe Sampras came to Roger when he was young. I would say I know Rafa better and we say hi all the time. He sends me messages and he’s the closest I am to, but the two other guys are as nice as him.”

Rafael Nadal was withrawn from Miami and is set to return in the clay season next month.
