Donovan Mitchell is one of Cleveland’s biggest sports figures. After getting drafted by the Utah Jazz in 2017, Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022.

He has spent four seasons with the Cavs and led them to the postseason for the first time since the 2017–18 season and the first without LeBron James since 1997–98. Since his arrival, theyhave made the playoffs every year.

Alongside Mitchell, baseball star Jose Ramirez is another beloved sports figure in Cleveland. The Dominican star signed for the Cleveland Guardians in 2013 and has been one of their biggest stars since.

With less than two weeks to go until the new season, Donovan Mitchell took some time off and made an appearance to show support for the Guardians. The decisive Game 5 matchup against the Chicago White Sox in the American League Division Series came on Saturday night. Mitchell rocked his Ramirez jersey when the cameras were on him.

Mitchell was joined by several Cavs teammates for Game 5. Evan Mobley, Jaylon Tyson, Tyrese Proctor, Meleek Thomas and more players were seen alongside Mitchell. After going 2-0, the Guardians’ season was hanging by a thread. They came back to level the series at 2-2 before Game 5 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

The dominant pitching performance saw the home side mount a dramatic series comeback. Jose Ramirez played an instrumental role as the Guardians became just the 11th team in 94 tries to win a best-of-five series after losing the first two games.

Donovan Mitchell gets real about the Cavs’ closing championship window

The Cavs made arguably the biggest move at the trade deadline this year when they traded for James Harden from the Los Angeles Clippers. It was a move that showed that the Cavs are going all in for a championship within the next two years.

After consecutive grueling Game 7 victories over the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons, the Cavs were clean-swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. While it was a disappointing end to their campaign, it was also their first Conference Finals appearance since the departure of LeBron James in 2018.

Mitchell got candid about it being now-or-never for the Cavs during his latest appearance as a guest on Complex’s In Motion With Ashley Nicole Moss.

I wouldn’t say now or never, but there’s this level of urgency. I think when you put the now-or-never thing, it’s like you put so much.. energy is tight. There’s no need for that. We’re being assertive. We’re putting our foot to the gas. And I don’t think we’re looking at it as, like, man, we got 10 years, you know what I mean?

With Harden at 37, the Cavs do not have a lot of seasons left with him. However, with Mitchell still in his prime and committing the next four years of his career to the Cavs after signing a contract extension, time is ticking for the organization.

Donovan Mitchell addresses James Harden’s legacy

James Harden is undoubtedly one of the greatest offensive players the league has ever seen. Drafted in 2009 with the No. 3 pick, Harden is one of the game’s most accomplished players. However, there is one accolade missing from his list of accomplishments, and that is a championship.

Known for his step-back jumpers, shifty movement, and crafty ball-handling, Harden carved out his own niche. During his career, he has won an MVP award, three scoring titles, two assists titles, and is ninth in the NBA All-Time scoring list.

While speaking to the media during training camp, Donovan Mitchell feels his veteran teammate is highly misunderstood

I truly believe the only reason he’s not talked about like LeBron and KD is because of championship convos. Seeing his influence, his passion, his intention behind his game really puts in perspective how BS the narratives are.

Donovan Mitchell to reporters

Harden was a big addition to the Cavs last season, but his playoff struggles were exposed once again when it mattered the most. The Beard has never missed a playoff in his career, which is an impressive accomplishment, but unfortunately, many will judge his legacy depending on the number of championships he has won.
