On Monday, the New York Yankees suffered a devasting blow just before the start of the new season. Their ace pitcher Gerrit Cole confirmed that he will be undergoing the Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2025 season. MLB Hall of Famer CC Sabathia has since then teased coming out of retirement and replacing him.

On Thursday March 6, Cole participated in the Spring Training of the Yankees. After experiencing some discomfort on his elbow, the former Cy Young Award winner went for further testing.

Cole was then recommended to undergo the Tommy John surgery. The 34-year-old pitcher and his team would later turn to other options before deciding to undergo this surgery. The pitcher released a statement on his Instagram on Monday evening confirming this development.

The Yankees are now left with a huge void in the pitching rotation. Whether the team will make any move or not remains to be seen, but one of their former pitchers and MLB Hall of Famer CC Sabathia seems to be ready to come back out of retirement to help them out.

Taking to his X account, the 44-year-old pitcher posted a picture of Ben Affleck‘s Bruce Wayne character looking at his Batman suit.

Sabathia spent 11 seasons in the Bronx wearing the pinstripes of the Yankees. In 2009, he helped the team win their 27th World Series. As a Yankee, the American international made 3 All-Star appearances from 2010 to 2012. Earlier this year, he was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame alongside one of his former teammate Ichiro Suzuki, and Billy Wagner.

The injury to Gerrit Cole has left the New York Yankees wondering about their next move. While the team could try to bring in some new players or rely on their options, a former Cy Young Award winner has offered himself to pitch for the team for free.

The pitcher in this picture is Trevor Bauer. The 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner was once again not selected by any MLB team in the offseason. This led to him returning to Japan and re-signing with the Yokohoma DeNA BayStars.

The 34-year-old is also highly active on social media. After writer and podcaster Dan Clark highlighted the growing injury woes of the Yankees on X, Bauer came in with an offer and seemingly offered to pitch for $0.

This is obviously not the first time Bauer has offered to play for $0 in the MLB. Last year, he offered to play for the league minimum. This came after he became eligible to play in the MLB again after his suspension came to an end.
