Cedric Doumbe is done with MMA referee, Marc Goddard and doesn’t want to see him anymore. Doumbe has a history with Goddard after he lost his first-ever MMA bout back in March. However, the PFL fighter has now shared his annoyance with Goddard publicly.
During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Cedric Doumbe talked about his hate towards Goddard. The fighter revealed that he used to like the referee before but after his last fight, things changed. Doumbe also accused the popular referee of being inefficient at his job.
I know it’s not good to say out loud, but I don’t like that guy anymore. I liked him before. He was the referee in my first MMA fight in Dubai. I liked him, but now I don’t like him anymore. It’s not the first time he does this type of decision, he makes these types of mistakes inside the octagon.Cedric Doumbe via MMA Fighting
Doumbe lost his first MMA match in March when a splinter got stuck in his foot. As a result, the bout was delayed so he could take some time to get it out. Goddard, being the ref, indicated that there would be no timeouts. But the Former GLORY kickboxing champion didn’t initiate the fight. So, the seasoned referee waived the fight off and declared the third round to be stopped.
Doumbe’s next bout is now slated for May 17 at the Bellator Paris show. While the fighter is getting ready for the fight, he does intend to have someone other than Goddard officiate his match.
Marc Goddard opens up about the controversial Cedric Doumbe’s stoppage
After the controversial decision made by Marc Goddard, the referee received a lot of criticism from fight fans as well as experts. While it wasn’t the first time Goddard had faced something like this, he did go out to share his opinions on the fight.
In an interview with La Sueur, Goddard talked about his side of the story. He explained in detail what led to him making the crucial call to end the fight.
At the beginning of the third round, Cedric Doumbe was trying to point out something to me, saying there was a problem, by showing me his foot. At that point, no foul was committed. If a foul is committed, I can stop the action and then make a decision. If there's an illegal action, voluntary or not, that's what we call an 'open play', the fight was in progress. He was signalling to me that there was a problem. The rules are very clear: for obvious reasons, a fighter can't take a time-out.Marc Goddard via La Sueur
Goddard has faced such situations with most of the promotions he has worked with in the past. UFC CEO, Dana White has also publicly talked about the referee’s fault in the past. Despite various such incidents, Goddard is still one of the most demanded referees in the MMA community.
