CeeDee Lamb is facing two significant penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in a total fine of approximately $25,000. However, for the second highest-paid wide receiver, who earns $36 million annually, the NFL’s fine may seem lenient.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL is imposing two strict penalties on the Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver for two unsportsmanlike conduct violations because of using his helmet for unnecessary roughness. It happened in week 4’s 20-15 victory against the New York Giants.
First, in the opening quarter for making a gun gesture to celebrate a first-down catch, followed by a taunting penalty after scoring a 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He has been fined $14,069 for the first one and $11,255 for the second, as per NFL’s fines and appeals schedule.

The three-time Pro Bowler wasn’t the only one facing a penalty. Wide receiver Allen Lazard and the Giants’ Marshon Lattimore were also fined $14,069 for making a gun gesture. Despite this, the Cowboys secured a victory, and Lamb had a strong performance, catching seven of his eight targets for 98 receiving yards and one touchdown.
CeeDee Lamb’s previous $22,511 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct
This is Lamb’s third penalty of the season, as just last week, the NFL imposed a $22,511 fine on the Cowboys receiver for an incident during a game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was penalized for jabbing the opponent’s wide receiver Kyle Hamilton on the ground using his helmet.
Although the officials didn’t raise any flag when it happened last Saturday in Week 3, they rectified the decision later on by announcing it as a penalty.
Surprisingly, the NFL’s decision to fine Lamb drew criticism, with fans accusing the league of “stealing” money from its players. According to Spotrac, Lamb was fined five times during his second year in the league, totaling over $40,000.
However, paying around $23,000 wouldn’t create a hole in Lamb’s pocket as he recently became the second-highest wide receiver in the league after signing a lucrative $136 million extension with the Cowboys. Lamb appears to be meeting expectations quite well, by recording 316 yards with 20 receptions and two touchdowns in the last four games of the season.
