Marvin Harrison Jr.‘s numbers since entering the NFL have been underwhelming. Most of it is down to the quarterbacks he has been paired with. Even his father and Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison Sr. took a swipe at the Arizona Cardinals offense ahead of the Week 9 fixture against the Dallas Cowboys.

Harrison Jr. and the Cardinals arrived in Dallas on the back of five straight losses before serving their bye week. The Cowboys weren’t in a great situation either. Two straight losses had left them with just three wins after eight outings.

Dallas had the upper hand at the kickoff due to the home support. However, the Cardinals were 4-1 in their last five meetings.

This was only Harrison Jr.’s second fixture against an NFC East franchise. He recorded 5 receptions and 45 yards against the Washington Commanders during his rookie campaign.

Harrison Jr.’s chance arrived early in the second quarter. On first and goal around the twelve-minute mark, quarterback Jacoby Brissett hit the second-year wideout with a short pass for a touchdown.

MVJ made his name as an elite route runner and boasted a big pair of palms. He displayed a glimpse of both on the play, leaving Cowboys DB DaRon Bland flat on his back. Even Cowboys All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was in awe of his skills.

Harrison ended the night on 7 receptions from 10 targets for 96 yards (13.7 yards per catch) and 1 touchdown as the Cardinals came away with a 27-17 victory.

The Cardinals hired Jonathan Gannon to develop former Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in football. Murray recorded just one winning season (2021) and won two games in five outings before suffering a foot injury in the current campaign.

Murray’s connection with Marvin Harrison Jr. has been a point of contention for the Cardinals. If Murray doesn’t get it right quickly, then 2025 could become his final year in Arizona.

MVJ’s father, Harrison Sr., in an interview with ESPN’s John Weinfuss, claimed that he struggles to watch the Cardinals offense. The former Colt, who won a Super Bowl, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. Harrison Sr. joked that he would have to return his gold jacket if he played in the Cardinals offense.

What I do know is you can put Marvin Harrison Sr., in my prime, in Arizona right now, and guess what happened? Canton, Ohio, [home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame] is going to send me a prepaid envelope and say, ‘Could you please send that jacket back?’ So, I’m not speaking for anyone. I’m speaking for me.

Harrison Jr. believes that his situation is different compared to his old man’s. Harrison Sr. played with one of the best quarterbacks in history, Peyton Manning, who was the backbone of the Colts offense.

If you’re a parent who’s never played football and you see your kid playing, this is all you know, but he’s been in the locker room, been on an NFL team, been in the best offense with one of the best quarterbacks of all time. So, he kind of sees it all from a different perspective. I think that’s what kind of makes it hard to watch for him.

Murray’s time is running out. He must establish a connection with his Harrison and start winning games otherwise, the Cardinals will be forced to look for a different shot caller.
