When Jerry Jones brought in George Pickens, his goal was to give Dak Prescott an additional target with CeeDee Lamb on the opposite end, forcing defenders to pick and choose whom they would target.
In the first three games, it was the latter who continued his form as the franchise’s No. 1 receiver as the Steelers’ trade entrant took his time to get to grips with their schemes. But in their last game, Lamb suffered an ankle sprain that would force him to miss their clash against former teammate Micah Parsons and his Green Bay Packers.
The pressure was on Pickens to perform, especially after his Game 3 blunder. He did not get many targets in the 1st quarter as the Cowboys fell behind. In the 2nd quarter, after another fruitless drive, the Cowboys tried to mix things up with a mix of short throws and run plays.
After arriving at the Packers’ 29-yard line, head coach Brian Schottenheimer‘s staff encouraged Prescott to open the taps, and he did that with a beautiful heave towards the left end of the field.
George Pickens knew the ball was coming to him and kept track of it, adjusting his pace and jumping exactly at the right moment to catch the ball, but still balancing his feet to ensure he stayed in bounds.

He did that even though he had Packers’ cornerback Nate Hobbs glued to him throughout his route, and safety Evan Williams, who came over to help. The catch left CeeDee Lamb jumping in joy as his fellow receiver caught a possible momentum-changing pass.

That catch did end up changing the momentum of the game, as George Pickens’ stunning catch set up Dak Prescott to run in for a 2-yard score, which effectively brought them back into the game.

The Cowboys’ defense decided it was their time to shine, and they stopped Packers’ QB Jordan Love from connecting on his first two throws. Even though he did do enough on his third attempt, the defensive line lured guard Darian Kinnard into a penalty, pegging the Packers backwards.
On the very next play, as Love was setting his feet to throw, sporadic pass rusher James Houston got a hand on the ball, sending it tumbling, and he fell onto it to secure the turnover.
This gave the Cowboys’ offense another chance to tilt the game towards their side. On a short field, Prescott noticed that Pickens had left Hobbs in his tracks and threw the ball down the middle.

The 4th-year receiver caught the ball for his first score of the night, which crucially saw the Dallas Cowboys take the lead for the first time in front of their home fans.

A Cowboys’ punt started the second half, which otherwise was going to turn into a shootout. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, the home team was behind by four points and needed nothing less than a score to win.
After Dak Prescott used his arm to drive them up to the Packers’ 28-yard line, they again lined up for a pass play. George Pickens ran a comeback route to perfection, leaving cornerback Carrington Valentine sliding on the turf.
He caught the pass, turned towards the end zone, and ran along the sidelines. Pickens maintained his momentum just enough to thwart star safety Xavier McKinney‘s attempts to stop him and score his second touchdown of the night.

This should have been the game-winner, but the Packers kicked a field goal to send the game into overtime, where a pair of field goals ended the game in a tie. Nevertheless, the Georgia alum had his best game as a Cowboy and probably earned the respect of their fans.
