Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla could not get his team to replicate their title-winning exploits from the 2024 season. Throughout the season, he displayed an acute sense of speaking his mind, and never worried about a backlash.

It started off with a bizarre suggestion that human beings were going to be dead soon, therefore, he did not feel the pressure of defending the title. He then took it another step when he claimed the league should allow fighting to boost ratings.

Thankfully for the league, the game as well as the transactions helped them bring back fans. He stood by his stance, that he does not watch NBA games, and thus, is a part of the problem. At the same time, he did not hesitate to aggressively go after officials to make a point.

The 37-year-old has a penchant for delving into his mind and giving an opinion that would have heads spinning. While on the Games With Names podcast, the championship-winning coach was asked by former NFL star Julian Edelman what venture he would pursue if he was not a coach.

We should start a business where you have like situation rooms. You can sign up, and go in and like re-enact different things. Like, ‘Hey what are you doing tonight’. ‘Aah, we are going to grab dinner, and we are going to re-enact the (Osama) Bin Laden Raid’.

The rest of the cast of the podcast were stunned by this suggestion. At first glance, it might seem that the idea was bizarre. However, the podcast crew’s reaction indicates they liked the idea, as it was unique and not yet brought into the world.

Joe Mazzulla will need to maneuver the upcoming season without Jayson Tatum

The way the Boston Celtics were playing in the 2nd round of the 2025 playoffs, fans understood the reigning champions were not going to defend their crown. Their play did not look as sharp as it was the previous year, and opponents found ways to counter their schemes.

The final blow was when Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles tendon. He went through surgery and now will have to recover completely before stepping back on the court. However, it will be a while before that happens.

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton also tore his Achilles tendon in the NBA Finals. The franchise’s top brass confirmed that their point guard would miss the entire 2025-26 season. Considering that it usually takes a year to come back, the Celtics should expect the same from their superstar.

That means, head coach Joe Mazzulla will have to maneuver his team next season without their leading player. It will be a tough task considering the Celtics also traded away some of their championship-winning players, but Mazzulla will have to do what is necessary to stay relevant.
