Celtics legend Paul Pierce takes SHOTS at Los Angeles Lakers for hanging In-Season Tournament banner
Boston Celtics now own the bragging rights as the best team in NBA history.
Celtics legend Paul Pierce calls out at Los Angeles Lakers for hanging In-Season Tournament banner after Boston Celtics win title no. 18
Today is when the Boston Celtics parade their 18th NBA title to their fans. The Championship parade is scheduled to draw huge crowds as franchise fans claim the biggest bragging rights of all. They are officially the winningest franchise in the NBA. Celtics legend Paul Pierce, part of the celebrations, did not stop at taking a shot at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Before the parade began, Pierce was inside TD Garden talking to current Celtics players and reporters. He took the opportunity to take a direct shot at their biggest rivals as revealed by reporter Katie Morrison-O’Day;
If we win the in-season tournament, we’re not putting up a banner. Let the Lakers do that. We will make a carpet out of it and put it in the hallway or something. We got put no in-season tournament (pointing to the rafters).Paul Pierce to KAtie Morrisdon-O’Day
The Los Angeles Lakers enthusiastically raised the 1st In-Season Tournament banner this season. But Pierce does not want all that after his team now holds the most trophies in the league.
Since the Los Angeles Lakers title win in the 2020 NBA bubble, they have been bragging about being the best franchise in the NBA. That is after tying the Celtics 17 NBA titles. But all that changed on June 17th when the Celtics hoisted their 18th title.
The perfect moment for Paul Pierce to suggest that his team only puts up Championship banners in the rafters. Unlike the Lakers who, due to reasons more to do with pressure from the league, hanged the In-Season Tournament banner.
The Los Angeles Lakers need to make decisions about the roster if they want to battle the Celtics
On the topic of the Los Angeles Lakers, now they need to match the Boston Celtics if they want to hit back at the likes of Paul Pierce. However, on First Take today, former player Udonis Haslem pointed to the biggest problem the Lakers have right now.
You've got your coach, but what about the roster? I don't think the Lakers have a championship roster. I mean, JJ could draw up the Annexation of Puerto Rico, it doesn't matter what he puts out there, they do not have a championship roster.Udonis Haslem on The First Take
Haslem mentioned that the Lakers have championship expectations. But they need pieces who can push them to that level.
The Celtics have proved that it takes a special roster to win a title. Something the Lakers do not have right now. If newly hired JJ Redick can push the front office to get specific players in, and more importantly, develop the younger players on the team, it could make a difference.
The bragging rights are now solely with the Boston Celtics. Until and unless the Lakers can win another title, the men in green will continue to rub it in.
