Champions League: Ajax AFC hit with Covid-19 testing
Ajax Amsterdam travel to Denmark after 11 players test positive for Covid-19

Ajax Amsterdam seems to have run into a shocking piece of news as 11 players tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday night. As reported by De Telegraph, most of the 11 players are from the first team and the ones who played against Fortuna Sittard.

Ajax now travel to Denmark to face Midtjylland with only 17 players in the squad. Players like Andre Onana, Dusan Tadic and Davy Klassen are all out of the match due to the testing. When closely looked at, it isn’t much of a problem as players like Daley Blind, Quincy Promes, Lassina Traore, David Neres and Nicholas Tagliafico are all available. However there will be a morale drop and mood change as a reaction to this sudden change of plans in the dressing room. Captain Dusan Tadic and Andre Onana are instrumental players for the Ajax squad and will be missed.

However this could also be a case of false emergency as recent tests have proved to be false. Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri both tested positive initially, but another test proved it to be wrong. This could very well be the case as 11 players have all been affected at the same time. Coach Erik Ten Hag will be hoping it is one such case as Midtjylland are tricky opponents to face.

Ajax can draw hope from the Montpellier team situation, when 12 players tested positive, but 10 of them were false positives. All in all, a second round of testing will hopefully clear the air.
