Match Report:

Manchester City dominated proceedings in this match as they welcomed back Kevin De Bruyne. Ferran Torres started in place of the injured Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. In the 18th minute Marseille’s Valentin Rongier made a terrible pass and De Bruyne collected it. He squared it to Ferran Torres and he finished it to give City the lead. The first half ended with City leading by one goal.

In the second half the hosts played better football and almost got an equalizer. Florian Thauvin’s long range shot was spilled by Ederson, but it hit the post and bounced out. 14 minutes from time Raheem Sterling got an assist as Ilkay Gundogan scored and City lead by two goals. A little bit later De Bruyne assisted Sterling for a tap-in and Manchester City comfortably won by three goals to zero.

City next face Olympiakos, who themselves will be looking to get their campaign back on track by surprising the English team. Marseille’s manager Andre-Villas Boas made sure to tell the journalists that when you spend a billion dollars on your club, they are bound to win games against smaller teams.
