RB Leipzig hosted PSG at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig. The usual suspects Christopher Nkunku and Emil Forsberg scored for the hosts while PSG slumped to its second defeat. Star players Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were absent for PSG due to injury and PSG suffered for it. RB Leipzig and Manchester United are level on points in the group while PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir are level on points.

Match report

RB Leipzig went behind to PSG in the early minutes of the match as Dayot Upamecano made a mistake. Moise Kean pounced on an error Upamecano made an immediately squared the ball to Angel Di Maria, who put the ball into the net. PSG attacked ferociously and kept the hosts within their own half. Di Maria and Kean both had goals ruled out as they were found in offside positions. Before that the former had got a penalty as a shot from Kean hit the hand of Upamecano.

Di Maria missed the ensuing penalty and PSG were ruing their chances to put the game to bed. In the 41st minute Leipzig equalized through Christopher Nkunku. Against the run of play Leipzig counterattacked and it ended when Angelino cut back a pass to Nkunku, who put the ball into the net. The first half ended on equal terms for both the teams. PSG should’ve had more goals and should have been leading though.

Both the teams took a reserved approach to the second half after a breakneck first half. RB Leipzig changed tactics and came out in a compact formation. PSG struggled to break down Leipzig after the tactical change and couldn’t score any more goals. Leipzig capitalised when Emil Forsberg scored a penalty of Presnel Kimpembe. Angelino’s cross into the box deflected off the latter’s hand and VAR awarded a penalty.

Emil Forsberg stepped up and scored against Keylor Navas. That was enough as Leipzig went on to defeat PSG. PSG had Idrissa Gueye and Presnel Kimpembe sent off for two yellow cards each. Despite Moise Kean’s performance, PSG slumped to a defeat and are third in the group table. Leipzig is second in the table, despite being on same points with United. Manchester United lost to Istanbul Basaksehir and remain on top of the table due to goal difference.
