Championship contenders looking at Kevin Durant in offseason brings up doubts: “Do you actually want to trade for him?”

Kendrick Perkins believes teams might not actually want to trade for Kevin Durant

Ever since the trade deadline stopped, two names have been a part of all basketball related discussions. One is Luka Doncic for the obvious reasons. Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant becomes the second after he unwillingly found himself on the brink of moving out.

Since then, he has repeatedly clarified that he did not ask for a trade. Rather it was the Phoenix Suns who were tempted by a lucrative offer the Golden State Warriors dangled in front of them. Since then, the dynamics between them have changed.

They had first traded for him to be the focus of their NBA title push. That plan has not worked out so far. Along with the developments at the trade deadline, Shams Charania reported that the two sides are working on finding a new home for him this coming offseason. After he revealed this on NBA Countdown, Kendrick Perkins said this.

Here’s the bigger question. If you are a team that’s actually looking to trade for Kevin Durant and you are trying to win the championship, do you actually want to trade for him? I’ve never seen a player that downplays winning a championship more than Kevin Durant.

Kendrick Perkins said

The former champion added that the Phoenix Suns traded a lot of assets to get hold of Kevin Durant. That has not worked out and other teams might be wary of sending similar assets for a 36-year-old. With teams looking to contend both for now and in the future, the superstar’s options are limited.

Stephen A. Smith feels Kevin Durant could return to Thunder

There are very few teams in the league with the resources to compensate the Phoenix Suns in a trade for Kevin Durant. The number will shrink further as he wants to go to a competitor. The possibilities are decreasing as teams may not want to deal that many assets.

If you are the Oklahoma City Thunder, you damn right you do it. They can’t even use all of the assets they have acquired. You can give away four or five 1st round picks and still have a boat load of picks.

Stephen A. Smith feels the Oklahoma City Thunder are a possibility. They have an arsenal of draft picks and are also the most NBA title ready team in the league. It would also be fitting that Durant returns to the franchise that drafted him and win a title there.

The Thunder have all the pieces on their team and Durant’s scoring will only add to their team. They want to win a title now and their former superstar might be the best upgrade they can trade for. That is unless he does not want to bring back old memories.
