Things concluded on a very bizarre note for the Los Angeles Chargers as they recorded one of the worst seasons in recent franchise history. But that led to the beginning of a new era, as the Chargers desperately needed a change and that was Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers pursued Harbaugh following Michigan’s college championship victory and hired him as soon as he stepped into the realm of the NFL. Given the disastrous season under Brandon Staley, hiring Harbaugh is their biggest upgrade.
Speaking of which, Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack recently opened up about the changed atmosphere of the Chargers locker room and highlighted the Chargers’ problem of not knowing how to win close games last season under Staley without mentioning him. He said the new head coach, Harbaugh, knows how to do that, and the ropes of the Chargers are in a safe hand.
Knowing what it took for you to lose those games, just having an understanding of the game, and knowing what plays lost you the game, knowing what situations lost you the game, like a two-minute drill at the end of the game.Khalil Mack said of Jim Harbaugh as per NBC Sports
Khalil Mack confident in Chargers’ future with Jim Harbaugh
Last season, the Chargers mostly struggled with close games, as many of their losses were one-point, two-point, and so on. That’s why, as the former Michigan head coach took over, he has been emphasizing on team’s ability to stand strong in the fourth quarter.
What Coach Harbaugh has done in being here not that long is to let you know the minute details that it takes to win those and finish those close games. I know that was the issue last year, and just knowing football, you know that’s a fixable thing.Khalil Mack added
It seems Mack and Co. are enjoying the new environment truly. However, many would argue that the shade at the previous coach might have been unnecessary.
The Chargers are entering the upcoming season with confidence to turn their last-second losses into victories. The team is keeping the goals realistic and only focusing on improving the offense and defense, especially formulating effective late-game strategies.
