“Fire Harbaugh!” – Chargers losing to Seahawks without putting up a fight doesn’t sit well with fans on social media

Justin Herbert was sorely missed by Jim Harbaugh during his first game in charge of the Los Angeles Chargers as they succumbed to a defeat against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jim Harbaugh’s tenure with Los Angeles got off to the worst possible start on Saturday. The Chargers lost 16-3 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Harbaugh was without #1 quarterback Justin Herbert for the game, who is undergoing rehab for a plantar fascia injury in his foot. He was at the Chargers SoFi Stadium in LA but in normal clothes, watching from the sidelines.

Herbert’s absence allowed Harbaugh to test the backups led by Easton Stick, who played the latter half of the 2023 season after Herbert was out due to a broken finger and finished with 4 losses from 4 games. It was the 28-year-old’s chance to show his talent.

Fans are already demanding Jim Harbaugh out of the door after pre-season loss to the Seahawks

Stick failed to repay Harbaugh’s faith in him as he threw a pick and only completed 5 passes from 13 for 31 yards. He looked jaded and slow out of the pocket the entire time he was on the pitch.

Harbaugh replaced Stick with Max Duggan, and Luis Perez finished the game for the Chargers. There were glimpses of a late recovery but eventually had to digest the defeat and chants of Jim Harbaugh out had already begun on social media.

Perez was the unlikely star for the Chargers. Although he had the same number of completions as Stick, Perez threw for more yards (61). The Chargers snapped him up from the UFL side Arlington Renegades, where he had 18 touchdowns and 4 picks in 2023.

Undrafted running back Jarrett Patterson had 7 carries for 38 yards, while Simi Fehoko caught 3 passes for 33 yards.

As for the Seahawks, debutant Sam Howell stole the show after his trade in the offseason from Washington. Howell completed 16 passes from 27, for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Veteran PJ Walker, who was on the Cleveland Browns last year, chipped in with 4 completions for 61 yards.

The Chargers will stay at home for their second game as they welcome LA rivals, the Rams. The Seahawks, on the other hand, will travel to Tennessee and play the Titans.
